Do we still not know for sure what they're going to build here?

Right, but that was the version that got absolutely roasted, yes?

I have no idea at this point.

I recall back in the Jurassic era the first iteration of The Juliet building at Johnson and Blanshard was roasted because it didn't have a corner orientation. Hence the rounded corner we see today.

I'm pretty sure DeHoog/Kierulf drew the first modern version, hence the resemblance to Gateway Green etc.
But I imagine the feedback from The Powers That Be was that it "wasn't old-timey enough" and a new architect was brought on.

To my eye the pic below suggested a more attractive building than does the image posted by Nparker above. The dark window frames surrounded by tan brick look pretty sharp, whereas in the image above that entire section comes off looking like painted concrete or who knows what.

DhK are still the architects for this project.
Know it all.

Materials. Materials. Materials.
If there's one thing we have seen firsthand in Victoria over the last 15 years, it's the critical importance of:
1) Massing
2) Ground floor street level interaction
3) Materials
You have to have at least two out of the three, but you have to have quality materials, IMO. You can have a widescraper, but it better be made of quality materials and interact well with the street.
The Wave fails on all three counts, for instance.

Which is why The Jukebox works...and View Towers does not.

^ Exactly the building I was thinking of when I wrote that post.
The Jukebox looks fantastic, even though the massing on its own is pretty terrible.

The Wave fails on all three counts, for instance.
I've criticized it every which way but when you get right down to it I just wish there was no setback on any of the commercial units and that the height of the ground floor was more consistent with the older storefronts right beside it.
I'll pay the Wave a compliment: I like how the building has a strong "blue glass" effect. Victoria's examples of such are few and far between, which makes even a straightforward specimen like the Wave seem more distinctive than it otherwise would. If there were 20 or 30 of them around town then I suppose it would be a different story.
