The whole event is sold out. They sold out of ticket packages for every game.

Lots of tickets available on ticketmaster and stubhub. Games start at $6 US in Vancouver.

Unless you must be at an event, absolutely have to guarantee yourself a specific seat, or have money to burn, you are a fool to buy advance tickets for any event promoted through a major ticketing organization these days. Wait until the last minute and you can generally pick up a great seat for 50% or less of the ticket value.

The Victoria side of the event is completely sold out. Of course, re-sellers are always available. So sold out in the sense that the seat has an owner.

Most people who bought packages are making money. Sure you might have to sell the Denmark-Switzerland game for $6, but you're cashing in on any Canada game. Same here in Vic. If you bought a package and sold half your tickets on UsedVic, you could break even and be watching your half of the games for free.

But your premise also negates events that go the opposite way. Last minute can be crazy expensive. I had tickets to Book of Mormon in Vancouver a few years ago...nosebleeds that I bought from Ticketmaster for $150. Couldn't make the show so sold them two days before the show for 3x face value on StubHub. Same thing for the Mariners home opener last year...made my money back 2x re-selling a couple days before. If a game/show is a sellout, you're normally making a profit on re-selling your tickets. It's the games or events that aren't sold out where you might lose money re-selling tickets.

^ Even though an event may be "sold out", it doesn't mean that every ticket was purchased for the purpose of someone attending the game. If you look at some of the SOFMC games, you can buy blocks of 8 tickets on secondary sites. There are two types of people who list tickets in the secondary markets, my experience has been that about 1/2 are people who plan to attend the event but  for 2x their purchase price will sell their tickets. The other 1/2 are tickets that have been held back or purchased for later resale. I agree that smaller venues like SOFMC are generally harder to get a deal on, but once the event has started the tickets quickly decline in value to zero.

It is the package deals that tend to generate the most secondary tickets as most people can't or don't want to attend every game.

^That's all true, but the event itself can't control what people want to do with their tickets. As far as Hockey Canada is concerned, the event is sold out in Victoria. If people purchased packages with the sole intention of re-selling them, that's out of their control.

oh ok that could be.  just going by the numbers published around 6200 for the first game 6700 for the second out of a ~7000 seat capacity.

My understanding is they are doing a hard ticket scan count. So true attendance instead of how many tickets sold. Actually quite refreshing to see...normally numbers get inflated when they do ticket sales instead of attendance.

Victoria is sold out. I was responding to a question about how a game in Victoria did not appear to be sold out.

The Empress is also home to Miniature World. It’s a group of smaller guys with a high skill level. Stunning dioramas include the Great Canadian Railway, the richly detailed circus, and the recently added King Arthur exhibit. Take note, Martin St-Louis and Johnny Gaudreau fans: Miniature World rules.

Had a chance to go to a couple of games and I was surprised at how many seats were empty. At one game the announced attendance was nearly 2,000 short of capacity. You would think that with so many people looking for tickets they would have had a better way of distributing extras.

then they’d be accused of selling the same seat twice. make the spare seats too easily available/free and you potentially cut into sales. it’s probably hard to work.

This one is the closest existing thread on VV to the subject at hand, and as the 2020 WJC tournament in the Czech Replublic ended this morning with Canada claiming yet another Gold medal, it didn't seem worthwhile to start its own thread.

Great game, as the kids put the pedal to the metal and came roaring back from a 1-3 third period deficit to the Russians and beat them 4-3. Canada = Gold; Russia = Silver and Sweden = Bronze after edging Finland earlier for third place.

Aside from the comeback by the good guys, I was mainly happy to see the game settled in regulation time due to that stupid international hockey rule regarding penalty shots - which should never be the mechanism used to determine a world championship IMO. Fortunately it was a non-factor this time out.

Next year's tournament is in Alberta.
