The cost of this screenshot comes with quite a price tag.

The Royal BC Museum announced Aug. 31 that it has purchased IMAX Victoria from Destination Cinema for $3.8 million, thanks to a provincial government grant.

The purchase is part of long-term planning aimed at modernizing the RBCM facility, where the IMAX Victoria Theatre has been in operation since 1998.

More than 356,000 people visit the 369-seat theatre each year.

When it opened in June 1998 — as the National Geographic Theatre — it was the 17th theatre in Canada to employ Imax technology.

It’s the largest Imax screen in B.C., measuring 18.59 metres high and 25.9 metres wide.

Following a short closure, the theatre reopened July 3 with COVID-19 protocols in place. Movies currently being shown include Great Bear Rainforest, Sea Lions, Turtle Odyssey and 1917.

so about 1000 patrons per day then.  that's pretty good for one screen.  of course i think even all year round that theatre has showings all day.

Have they stopped compressing everyone into that corridor before letting them in? Because I never liked that.

Can’t they just make the time longer between shows and let people just walk in? (don’t know what’s going on currently)

they could. But then they do less shows. They might play 6 different titles in a day over 9 time slots. So they will lose some audience by extending the wait.

Can’t they just stay open longer?

so starring jp patches and kelly and ryan?

The show was immensely popular in the Puget Sound area and southwestern British Columbia; at the peak of its run, the program had a daily local viewership of over 100,000. It was enjoyed not only by children but also by parents, who appreciated J. P.'s frequent use of double entendre (G-rated) and sly subversiveness that mostly went over their kids' heads.

___________________

One of J. P.'s bits was to call the city dump operator Gertrude on a big yellow banana phone, although Gertrude herself was never seen or heard. One day, as J. P. asked for a ham sandwich from Gertrude for a picnic, Newman yelled out, in a falsetto voice, "Okay Julius, I'll send it right down." Wedes was as surprised as everyone else, and from that day forward Newman became Gertrude, with his falsetto voice, frumpy dress and a wig made from a dyed red mop. J. P. got his "ham" as Bob Newman was willing to do anything for a laugh and proved to be the perfect foil for Wedes' improvisational comedy.

^Don't you, forget about me. Don't, don't, don't, don't. Don't you, forget about me. Will you stand above me. Look my way, never love me. Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling. Down, down, down. Will you recognize me? Call my name or walk on by. Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling. Down, down, down, down.

IMAX Victoria is home to the largest movie screen in the province, but it’s also a technological marvel with 12,000 watts of power and 12 channels of surround sound.

Now, after a two-year break, a festival designed to showcase the theatre’s vast capabilities has returned.

The IMAX Victoria Film Festival opens Friday. Eight films are on tap through March 26, including three feature-length documentaries. Animal Kingdom: A Tale of Six Families, will have its IMAX Victoria première during the three-week event.
