We occasionally drop in as this pub is a short walk from our place; hope the new owners don't muck about with the menu much, if at all, as the fare has been pretty good whenever we've ventured in. In fact as pub food goes its quite tasty.

Yup, agreed, it's pretty good for pub fare.

No complaints from me when I've gone.

I think we took the Citified Sonic once!

I'll chime in and agree...good burgers and fries! HUGE place, never seen it full I don't think, but I've only been in a handful of times. Always patrons in there. Bar is always full! Curious to see what becomes of it, as It is quite close to my house!

Neighbours of Esquimalt’s Gorge Pointe Pub had their first say over what will become of the property after the restaurant’s lease is up at year’s end.

Abstract Developments purchased the pub’s 1075 Tillicum Rd. property last year after it was on the market for four years. The company ran a virtual community feedback meeting on May 19.

Adam Cooper, Abstract’s director of community planning and development, said they want to hear from residents before going to Esquimalt with a building application.

Mike Joss, general manager and co-owner of the pub, hopes they can negotiate to extend their lease past 2021, until construction on the new development begins. He said Abstract turned down one lease extension offer they made – that would see the pub operate until shovels are in the ground – and the company’s counteroffer was too costly for Gorge Pointe to pay, especially fresh off the pandemic’s third wave.

that might clear up some of the confusion in another thread.

“We’re planning an open house auction where people can bid on Gorge Pointe Pub memorabilia, including vintage photos and chairs, with all proceeds being donated to Our Place Society,” Louis said.

More news to come on that as it develops.

While we’re sad to see the over a hundred year old bar go, we’re happy that people have one last chance to celebrate a staple of Victoria’s pub scene!

I'm so sorry I didn't see this to now. The Gorge Pointe was my "local" when I bought my first real estate (a condo on Selkirk). Also where I met my partner who has given me the life I so enjoy. We met online before that was really a thing. And surprised to learn we lived only blocks apart - me one side of the Gorge Tillicum bridge and he on the other side.

As pointed out on the local CAMRA (real ale) page, Esquimalt thirsts will soon be slaked with the opening of taprooms/lounges at Driftwood and Lighthouse breweries :)
