...this should mollify those folks who think Victoria is becoming too gentrified.

Methinks Winners is a great addition because you can complain both ways about it. If you want to say Winners is evidence of downtown's terrible slide then you can note the locations at Tillicum Mall or in Langford. If you want to say Winners is evidence of downtown's terrible gentrification then you can note the locations in downtown Vancouver, at Cambie & Broadway, and at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa.

It gives all Victorians (shoplifters included) everything that they could possibly want.

You can say downtown Victoria is becoming too much like downtown Vancouver. Any of the standard complaints can be twisted to fit without too much effort.

Too bad it’s not a Bottle Depot.

Dollar Giant / Bottle Depot?

I was hoping for a Sears

I have nothing against Winners, but I can already go to a Winners elsewhere if I wanted to.  It seems like every mall is slowly evolving to be the same set of stores.  Nothing new.

winners and home sense have those stickers you simply can't remove. having been in retail, i'll bet it cuts down on at least 50% of the shoplifting.

What, it makes noise? The downtown crowd dont care, they just grab and run out the door. Trust me this store will be an absolute economic boom for the junkies

The press release mentions a few other minor capital improvements going into the mall (lighting, entryway improvements etc.) but I really wish they would get rid of the late 1980s design elements, including the teal and purple color schemesx in the mall’s interior. Pacific Centre’s interior (downtown Vancouver) looks infinitely better.

The new tile and lack of the old turtle fountain is boring.

The mall is good for cutting across the block though.

I don't mind the look of the Bay Centre....actually I couldn't tell you what it looks like as I don't really pay attention to that sort of thing. If they have a useful store, I go without noticing decor.

How about a useful decor store? Would you pay attention to that?  ;)

Any truth to the rumour that Visions Electronics is having problems opening a store in the Bay Centre?

Eaton's would be better.

Eaton's would be better.

Or Woodward's.

I think a combination Woolworth / Woodward’s would be the sweet spot.

Marks Woolword’s Giant Depot just about covers all of our bases, I think.
