Northern Junk for the win (or the loss depending on one's perspective).

Remember, you can always use the escalators in The Bay, although they've closed off access from within the mall on the ground floor.  You now have to enter The Bay from their direct entrance on the corner of Government and Fort.

if you're addicted to escalators?  Or just use the elevators?  Or stairs? :)

Lol, the Bay Centre elevator, singular, is the slowest elevator in Victoria, possibly the west coast of Canada.

If your shopping needs require a visit to housewares or bedding, well, that's on the fifth floor...

But note that the housewares department at the downtown Bay is essentially devoid of stock currently ... so don't make any special trips there for anything without phoning first (they probably won't have it, and will tell you they can't yet order it).

We've actually been shopping for mattresses of late - again 5th floor.  Looking for something with more natural materials.

Anyone have a Marshall mattress?  If so, do you like it?

That has to be someone's idea of a joke.

Now if she had said they were being replaced with bike lanes, I'd be more inclined to believe her.

These bike lane jokes are getting so old that they now have heritage status.

What makes you think I was joking?

Cross-post from the Retail coming/going thread:

A rezoning application has been filed to put the first official (government) BC Cannibis store within city limits in the Bay Centre downtown.  It looks like the store will occupy the former Teavanna space (street level facing Fort Street) if I'm judging the plans correctly:  https://tender.victo...820100230163294

I was surprised to see two or three finally working again the other day. But because a few others are under construction, they've built a metal staircase to go up that feels incredibly precarious.

What is the reasoning behind it? Is it financial? If the bay goes (which it might) - id Kiss that mall goodbye

Victoria's Bay Centre not on list of Cadillac Fairview malls using hidden facial recognition technology.

https://www.cbc.ca/n...mages-1.5781735

The watchdogs said the facial recognition software was used to generate additional personal information about individual shoppers, including estimated ages and genders. The images were subsequently deleted — but investigators found that the sensitive biometric information generated from the images was being stored in a centralized database by a third party.

The company said it suspended its use of cameras back in 2018 when provincial and federal privacy commissioners launched their probe following a CBC investigation.

that’s too bad. they would have recorded some interesting expressions on faces when people realized the escalators were all out of service.

maybe they will be sued by the bay for not providing top a quality mall.

One one hand I'm glad CF didn't use that technology here. On the other hand I'm offended they didn't think Victoria's demographics were worth knowing.

They’ve actually been half-back for a couple of weeks now. You can take the escalators up to the food court, just not back down. Should all be done by 2023 at this pace!
