Casman Properties' project with Star Cinema in Sidney is making its way through municipal approvals. It was given favourable consideration by Council on March 12, and had an open house (not public hearing) on April 4.

Six storeys, 45 units, 2 CRUs, and a 7,250 square foot cinema. Council has requested a legal covenant restricting use of the cinema space to a theatre only, so no conversion to other uses without municipal consent.

Thank the Town of Sidney! They're the ones who have the super easy to find and navigate Active Development Applications page and a Completed Development Applications page, so you can actually see what has already gone through. Some nice buildings approved in Sidney this year! Also some not so nice ones, but hey, different strokes for different folks.

Care to point out a specific project or two?

Looks like they have posted some updated plans as well, and a few new renderings.

A dramatic change from how it looks right now.

See, to me this is the sort of stuff that should be happening like crazy on Victoria's neighbourhood commercial streets. How ludicrous is it that an attractive little project like this can happen in Sidney but it would surely cause uproar in any Victoria neighourhood for being too much, too dense, too "big city", etc.?

Here are some of the approved Development Permits from the past year. I won't comment on which ones I do and don't like  ;)

The Development Permit application was approved on June 18. Sidney gets things done quickly!

The plans were revised slightly based on feedback from ADP. The staff report outlining the revisions is here: http://www.sidney.ca..._to_Council.pdf

The revised plans are here: http://www.sidney.ca...eo-Third St.pdf

Yes

I guess that's one way to get to know your neighbours.

It appears that the support posts are positioned in such a way that putting up a screen will be easy. Allows flexibility in the use of space, so why not?

True enough I suppose. Unless they were my friends I wouldn't be all that keen with folks strolling past/through my balcony space.

I really hate this trend of kitchens not being separated from the living room... 🤮
Predictive text and a tiny keyboard are not my friends!

Speak for yourself. I love open concept plans.

Open concept yes... but a breakfast counter with cabinets or something between the kitchen and living room, not just the kitchen IN the living room.

BTW... I do believe I was speaking for myself.

Fair enough. Only looks like one or two bedroom units have that here, so pick what you like :).
You kinda have to exclude studios from that complaint as they don't have the space to do it differently.
