Laurel Point is a geographic indicator and like Ogden Point the name is likely to stick despite elaborate re-naming schemes.

So long as the Laurel Point Inn exists people will refer to the area that way. Of course, most people are thinking of the hotel when they say it I believe rather than any explicit reference to the rocky outcropping upon which it was built.

Perhaps the hotel should think of renaming itself as "Peter Pollen Park Inn".

Not sure how well this is being advertised, but the City has released the concept plan and is asking for feedback. Project website is here: https://engage.victo...aterfront_Park/

HAPA Collaborative is the firm involved in the design. Not sure if they've done work in Victoria before, but they're prolific over here on the mainland.

As much as this terrible wasteland needs to be revitalized, in the face of significant economic uncertainty, especially in regards to CoV revenues, should it be considered a priority?

I would just like a few trees, that's it. It's very barren now and although I guess that once-huge pond was part of the hotel, what it is now is very disappointing. It used to have a natural look with water lilies etc., now it's industrial-looking.

Couldn't we just shorten it to Pollen Park?

I just went over to today and yes, so bare. I really hope they bring some trees back indeed.
I didn’t see a pond, where is that? And some things seem to be missing: the canon and I think another historic feature (can’t remember exactly what it was). They don’t show up on the new plan either.

The canon = colonialism. I doubt it will be returning. Need to erase the last 150 years of history at every opportunity.

That’s what crossed my mind too...

The pond is, I guess, part of the Laurel Point Inn, so it's on the side where I think they have a swimming pool. Really used to be lovely, like a mini lake. Now it's very rectangular and again, barren-looking.

I am beginning to hate Victoria.

The Inn at Laurel Point's renewal & entranceway re-design is done, and the hotel and Aura are open.

Their part of the soil remediation on the western part of their property is done.

Nice job!

That harbour-facing patio looks like a great spot to have summer lunch.

According to the plaque the cannon was donated to the City by Delta Hotels to mark the opening of the Laurel Point Inn. It's not part of the maritime history of the harbour, unlike the 9oclock gun in Vancouver.

There is a little plaza made out of stones towards the entrance. I walked by once and thought something was missing. There used to be a flag and a plaque I think. So I checked it out, and yes, there is a whole the size of a flag pole in the middle that has been cemented in. Does anyone know what used to be there? It looks funny now, no purpose.
