We urge you to think strongly about how your opposition to LNG developments is causing harm to our people and our wellbeing. Opposition does nothing towards empowering our Nation, but rather dismisses our Rights and Title and works towards separating our people from real benefits.

On this morning’s round table Adam Stirling noted that in some cases hereditary means literally what we all think it means, but it can also mean appointed to the position of heriditary chief. It’s all a little complicated.

In December, Mayor Lisa Helps brought a motion to council to indicate to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation that Victoria doesn't want a casino, but she says Councillor Mari-Anne Alto made an amendment, which may keep the possibility on the table. "I don't remember the exact wording, but it's something like 'Unless it's a casino run by First Nations.' And the complicated, challenging piece for all of us, and she made a very strong argument, was 'what right do we have to tell Indigenous Communities what self-determination looks like.'"

Funny, just last week Her Worseship was OK with telling some Indigenous folks - those who were OK with the LNG pipeline - what self-determination looks like.

Would love [not really] to hear Lisa's thoughts on this:

First Nations group close to tabling a Trans Mountain pipeline offerA group of First Nations plans to put a bid to buy part of the Trans Mountain pipeline before the federal government by April or May.

Whispering Pines First Nations Chief Mike LeBourdias says they have met with all the stakeholders from the banks to industry and it is now time to put the final pieces of the proposal together.

“There is an election in November so we are going to put a preemptive bid in front of him so that is a yes or no before the election. I think it will be a good enough proposal that he will say yes because it makes sense for all of us. We want to have truth and reconciliation. We want to have partnership with Canada and this can be the start of that. This can be a model.”

LeBourdias says the finalized offer will be made within months.

“Probably late spring so April or May-ish.”

^ So "sell us the pipeline at a discount and finance it for us or we will block your efforts"?

I can’t help but think this involves 100% vendor financing or guarantees. what is the bands expertise on running or building a pipeline?

$92 million and our colonialism is to blame:

https://www.cbc.ca/n...5157580?cmp=rss

National inquiry calls murders and disappearances of Indigenous women a 'Canadian genocide'

The report is the culmination of the $92 million National Inquiry into Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women

although I think it’s generally known our colonialism ended decades or a century before the missing women covered by this study.

Having every FN language being given the same official status as French and English is ridiculous.

What is truly a shame is that most FN women are murdered by FN men. There are lots of reasons for that which should be addressed, but it sounds from the overview at least that in an attempt to use hyperbole and shocking headlines those small details will be lost. This report will be forgotten in 6 months, a missed opportunity.

The whole thing is a joke. This will do nothing to further justice and nothing to stop murders. Its just a make work project for activists.

I think the innocent Indigenous women who were imprisoned and forcibly sterilized in the 1970s will be glad to hear Colonialization actually ended 100 years earlier.

You have accepted a newspeak definition of colonization.

Women with disabilities were also forcibly sterilized at the same time. Kids with disabilities were kept out of the public school system and put into vocational schools up until the 80's.

We did lots of things in the past which by today's standard's are unacceptable. I was hoping that this report would improve the outlook for FN but it doesn't appear to do so.

Having every FN language being given the same official status as French and English is ridiculous.

There is precedent just set for a different version of this. Bill C-81 (the only unanimously approved bill in this government's history, it's just waiting on royal assent now), was amended in the Senate to make ASL, LSQ, and Indigenous Signed Languages as the official languages of the Deaf.

Something similar could be done with FN languages - not the same status as French and English, but still officially recognized.

Now, what this actually means in the case of Bill C-81 is unclear to me. I don't see how it improves anything related to ASL, for example.

I think officially recognized means something different then official status.

The report also recommends that any murder involving an intimate partner being treated as 1st degree murder.

If I was being herded around against my will in the 1970s because of the colour of my skin, yeah, I'd call that colonization. Wouldn't you agree?

I'd call it racism, but I am sort of old-school when it comes to terminology.

Uh no. Colonization refers to migration, as in moving to and settling in new territories. So unless by sterilization you meant building settlements and by indigenous women you meant territories, your statement makes no sense.
