I feel for whatever commercial space goes into this project. The retained "Bridgehead Green" will create a visual barrier, despite the proliferation of activity suggested by the rendering above.

It was in the Times Colonist today. There were no additional renderings and there has been no update to the Development Tracker either.

Some promising stuff in here:

 

 

Its design would reflect the character of Victoria’s Old Town, with red brick on the exterior of the northern section, and an inset mural, Stovell said. The mural design has not yet been determined. The southern section of the new rental space would have an exterior of grey-coloured terra cotta tile.

A glass atrium would wrap around and protect a portion of the southern-most warehouse, Stovell said.

With the old buildings, “we are keeping all the interior walls and exterior walls. Most of the walls will still be outside in the public realm.”

Northern Junk certainly has set a record for the most high-quality proposals for the same small site.

I find it hard to believe these 100+ year-old walls will withstand the construction process without having to be pretty much entirely re-built.

It will likely just be the walls. They will technically be whole new buildings seismically. It is pretty good so far for property. I mean what else could the developer do here?

The best and by far the saddest to lose was the mini tower proposal. That would have been an iconic and contemporary entrance to downtown and complement to the new JSB

The 2012 proposal was pretty darn good as well. It restored the Wharf Street frontage and of course now that will be lost forever.  :(

Jesus, the defining feature of the NJ buildings is their stand-alone feature and rubble wall. This design erases that. They no longer have a reason to exist. The facades are unremarkable, This is a cookie-cutter approach to heritage.

I understand why Reliance is doing this. They've run out of options and are up against the wall. But this is the facadism FOCUS wrote about.

Rubble walls that are essentially being hidden by this proposal. It's the worst option yet.

Really liked the micro-district effect of the various other proposals. That's toast now. Just one building.
