Great timing on HBO's part.  Aren't we in a climate emergency?  Shouldn't we be promoting the safety of nuclear?

I watched this last night, too. Excellent so far.

Someone in our house got Crave for free as an air miles promo, and added on the premium stuff so we have HBO and Showtime (Billions) now.

I was living in England at the time and the news was full of radiation warnings. Livestock were tested and IIRC readings for radiation were high.

The joke at the time was "Chernobyl drop off " if you were irradiated.

Hanging out in Norway(mountains and forest) in 1990 for 6 weeks, melting the snow to drink for water (that was our water resupply plan).

The nights were beautiful with the Northern lights and the glow off of the snow plain. Seriously, there was a glow/green hue on the snow.

A few days before heading home, being told to stop using the snow to melt for drinking water by our Canadian Military COC due to the Chernobyl fallout.

The good old days!

I watched the first episode, very good, very dark, very bleak.

My daughter visited Chernobyl a few years ago. Quite the experience. A giant hornet landed on her leg. Luckily she was wearing thick jeans.

The hand cranking of the flashlights in the opening scene was masterful foley artistry.

Is there a Crave+HBO free trial?  Maybe I'll sign up when all the episodes have aired and are available.  I'm not paying for Crave's mediocre service.

I'm up to episode 3 and its very good. Definitely 1 to concentrate on, the subtleties of Soviet life are fascinating.

My only concern is that shows like this will further justify the anti-nuclear movement whereas the Reactors Canada, France the US etc use are far more advanced and safer...heck even Fukishima the people are starting to move back  https://www.bbc.com/...ow-of-fukushima

Looking forward to continuing to watch this. It reminds me of a very high quality BBC production where attention to detail and authenticity to tell the story is needed to let people understand the mindset of the Communist system....I wonder if Ben Isitt is enjoying it...
