I was at a wedding yesterday and the Woman’s World Cup came up as a conversation piece. Not a single person standing around who was part of the conversation had even an inkling that it was happening.

Who markets this stuff?

Know it all.

Problem is that FIFA does not care at all about the women’s game compared to the men’s tournament. Look at the whole ticket debacle the first day. Why two major men’s finals are schedule to occur the same day as the women’s final.

I thought that was a pretty s****y thing to do: really, the Excitable States flexes its Number 1-rated soccer muscle against that well known global power in women's footie, Thailand, and proceeds to methodically pummel the crap out of them?

On top of which they proceed to celebrate every goal from the first to the last like its the Second Coming of Christ....really, was that truly necessary? I get its a world championship and the players worked hard to get there but you can still (handily) beat an opponent and remain a good sport in the process IMO.

And I don't want to hear about "goal differential" and how it matters because the US women have as much to worry about on that front as America does about being invaded by Iceland. But I forget...you know ".....Hoo-RAH.....'Murrica!!!" Sure would be nice to see them and their hyper-inflated egos taken down a few pegs, especially after a ludicrous write up in USA Today defending this debacle....

the only slight defence is that they can’t know if others in there group would also go slow on Thailand. and thus ring is a similar goal differential. but the celebrations were unnecessary.

it looks poorest on the organizers. why is such a lousy team there?

Can't entirely disagree there; same situation with Women's Hockey - there's Canada, the US, Finland further back in third place, then further still in the rear view are Sweden and China and then....nobody.

If the World Cup really has such weak sisters, pardon the pun, on the women's side of the sport then perhaps they should reduce the number of qualifying teams to a number that is more competitive. Really who wants to sit through a 13-0 ass kicking? This is soccer after all, once one side is up by 3 goals (never mind double figures) its game over 99.99999% of the time......

terrible defending by canada on sweden's goal (although the sweden pass was pretty spot-on).  absolutely bad.  then we missed a penalty shot.
