Oh I agree, it’s not an ideal scenario. And of course the damage the stress test has done for qualifying is also another matter. At 5 and a quarter or whatever the stress test is means even at a $100k income you’re now relegated to something along the lines of 70% of what you could qualify for.

In my case the stress test was only off by 3%. But who’s counting.

This is gone to a pay model now? Anyways. Preview of an interesting looking series of articles on housing and how water limits building here. The housing market here is brutal. I don’t know how other service industry businesses survive here without some seriously involved personal solutions. Many businesses own staff housing just to survive.

Over the weekend Capital Daily sent out a newsletter claiming Steve Wallace was arrested and charged with sexual assault then released on bail and they were asking people to donate to their organization to continue with their investigative reporting. Now they are saying Steve Wallace was not charged with sexual assault and wasn't released on bail and that they are sorry for making those claims. They also said police are not responding to their requests for comment.

Can someone explain to me what is happening please.

^ Who knows, lets see how they dig themselves out of this one.

I'd bet there are a few people in the MSM getting their kicks over this.

That's easy.  They'll just blame Langford.

VicPD has written to us with the following statement, from Bowen Osoko:

“We are not able to confirm the information. VicPD has not supplied any documents, undertaking or otherwise, to a media outlet in relation to inquiries about this subject.

We believe survivors of sexualized violence. We take reports of sexualized violence seriously and want survivors to know that we will listen. For information on supports you can access please visit: vicpd.ca/webelieveyou.”

So we gave three claims:
- An arrest took place
- Charges were laid
- Bail was granted
- a document was obtained identifying those facts

This AM, they have walked back the claim charges were laid, and bail was granted, and they’ve identified their source for the document as one of Wallace’s accusers, but the document does not corroborate charges, bail or an arrest.

South Island Prosperity Project frontman Dallas Gislason said on Twitter "Wow, amazing work on this team effort! Absolutely A+, top notch, professional journalism at work!" @dallasgislason

I can't tell if he's being sarcastic or if he's serious that the **** up of the decade is A+.

There is drama once more, this time over an investigation by Cap over pepper spray being used by RCMP at the Fairy Creek protest. Cap apparently did not see an angle of video footage that shows an officer had been pushed, falling into another officer, who then falls and suffers a head injury, prior to pepper spray being deployed.

Twitter link: https://twitter.com/...5938263042?s=21

“On Aug. 21, RCMP officers pepper sprayed protesters at #FairyCreek. They say they did so to protect an officer—who they claim was pushed—from a hostile crowd. A joint investigation by @CapitalDailyVic and @ricochet_en has found none of that is true.”

Here is the video of the push: https://twitter.com/...7124588552?s=21

I’m just playing catch-up this morning so maybe there’s been more discussion under different accounts but Cap has been made aware of the video.

Seems like a symptom of putting eager beaver 20 somethings in charge of journalism. It has its pros and cons.

I don’t see a push. He is surrounded by other officers. It looks like he lost his balance on the slope due to the movement of the crowd.

It’s a little tough to see as there’s so much happening, but there’s a cop who got pushed, he fell into another cop, and that cop fell over the block.

The mob kept pushing forward.  No different than someone getting crushed to death at a stadium.

It looks like there were several strong shoves, then the final one. Here’s a longer video: https://twitter.com/...2260898820?s=21

One of the cops is being propped up by the bald cop, that if you watch, you’ll see him getting shoved several times, then the last shove pushes him into the cop at the block. At the same time, the cop with the commando cap gets pushed also into the cop at the block. Lots of moving parts here, but this wasn’t a “trip.”

Even after the cop is down, the crowd continues to push and aNother cops jumps up onto the block yelling at the crowd to back off.

What’s interesting is there is a version of the same video floating around that has the fall cropped, meaning you’d get a different idea of what went on.

I don't think the article is disputing that the cop got knocked over. The article went to great length to absolve the crowd of any responsibility for the incident which I don't think was entirely relevant in any regard given the article's main point was to question the justification from the RCMP that pepper spray was necessary to protect the officer's safety. Given what I've observed it sure doesn't look to have been needed. In any regard, the images of the RCMP spraying the crowd is terrible look. And it hurts efforts in the long run when you've got a judge refusing to extend the injunction over these types of incidents.

What is the alternate?  When two groups oppose each other and refuse to budge on the issue, and that the injunction can no longer be enforced, it leaves only one option.  Force. That is why it is called a Police Force.

Using bear spray was incredibly conciliatory given the other options of force available.

Saw this in the CD this morning.

Premier John Horgan had surgery last week to remove a lump on his neck, which has now been confirmed as cancerous. Horgan said his prognosis is good and he expects to make a full recovery.

Isn't the real story that Horgan had a biopsy conducted and now has to undergo chemo?

I got a note from someone telling me the editor of Cap refers to VV as “a forum for boomers.”

You know, it’s funny. Since its inception in 2006, this forum has been described as so many different things, used by so many different people, with so many different views. In 2006 it was the “the skyscraper fanboy” forum run by restless youth at war with the status quo.

This summer VV turns 16, btw. That’s a decent run.
