If Horgan had any faith in her abilities to improve the situation then we would see her standing beside Eby at every opportunity, especially in the last few days when he's been making announcements specific to BHP etc.

She's not standing with him...that speaks volumes

That is very unusual not having the MLA present during announcements in the riding.

I would agree if she was participating in the Legislature in other ways. But it seems like she's not around at all. Maybe there are other things go on

^ Saw her facebook post.  I hope that her son's tumor is not serious and wish him a speedy recovery.

No wonder she hasn't been doing anything related to her position as MLA since being elected. If the diagnosis was in February then the family would have had concerns much earlier.

I don't know how practical it is to have "staff" handle her affairs as MLA for which could be an indefinite period of time.

Good lord.

This is tragic. It is understandable why Lore has not been publicly engaged.

You're saying she should step down and a by-election held? That's a bit radical.

What horrible news.  I can't imagine how difficult it must be.

No.  The metal of the NDP will be exposed since a dumpster fire of homeless management ineptitude is alit in her riding should no colleague step in to help take action.  She needs help.

I didn't say that at all. I simply asked the question as to how effective staff can be managing affairs for an indefinite period of time.

It has been obvious for a while that Ms. Lore hasn't been available, that is why this topic was started and I suspect why she has come forward. I don't blame her for wanting to care for her child but at some point you need to make a decision.

she is quite fortunate to have the type of job where you can stop doing any work at all and still draw your $2,100/week salary.

We know that staff usually do the heavy lifting when it comes to dealing with constituents and that in the past, an MLA's absences have been handled adequately by their office.

This is a situation without a clear immediate outcome. You still seem to want her to go back to work or have a by-election held quickly unless there is a third option you are thinking of. That career decision will come eventually, but the family needs time to plot a course of action.

As a parent, I wholeheartedly feel for Ms. Lore. I also feel for her constituents. Public life and small children are often not a great mix under the best of circumstances, and rely upon the spouse of the person who is taking on an unusually heavy workload to take up the slack on the homefront.  It's often why higher income households wind up with a parent who is "stay at home" or works part-time, because life doesn't work when the home front falls apart. Alternatively the domestic work gets outsourced with neither parent taking much of a hands on role. I think its also why many women with small children abstain from politics until their children are older.  A critically ill child is a tremendous challenge - and what Grace decides to do or not do is a tremendously personal decision. Finding balance under the circumstance is likely impossible - and something will have to give, there will be sacrifice somewhere.  Hoping his challenge is overcome as swiftly and with as little pain as possible, and in the interim - hoping the best for Grace and her family.  Also hoping the best for her constituents who, lets face it, have gone a long while without an effective voice in the legislature and who will have to go a while longer yet.  At least there's good reason for the neglect that has been experienced.

More than that, there is an extra amount for her work as a parliamentary secretary.

Here is how a leave of absence is treated in the BC Government for anyone working for Ms. Lore.

It’s a terrible situation that you don’t wish on anyone. As a parent there is nothing worse than seeing a child in medical distress.
Explains why she’s been absent, I suspect this has been going on for months.
Horgan should step in and provide the people of JBBH with support. This isn’t OB this is an area under extreme distress right now. I’m surprised that he hasn’t asked Murray Rankin to pick up some of the slack.
This is not the time for staff to be left to run things.

Interesting that Carole's friends are being charged extra. Perhaps it's a shame tax.

I'll note the following. Ms. Lore has been present at a lot of the events of the recent municipal election and has been seen to provide active support to the Team Alto candidates during the election. She also seemed to campaign against the VIVA candidates, and was seen in a twitter post wearing a controversial "protect trans kids" shirt that depicted a knife. I suspect the NDP are not overly confident in the "safe seat" status of Victoria and are attempting to bolster in preparation for the next provincial election expected in 2024.

The NDP has zero risk of losing the seat. It’s likely that a Victoria councillor jumps ship to pursue the position, if Lore steps away from politics ahead of the next election.

So there very well could be a by-election in 2024, if the election is called early after Eby takes over.
