I like the old school bakeries, I'll have to find that one on Quadra.

We might have to ask Bill Gates to settle this.

He's never returned. So there's your answer 😂

They're just north of Quadra + Mckenzie, before McBriar if I recall correctly.

Sadly, one of the best bakeries on the peninsula just closed permanently on Friday - BJ's Bakery and Wraps on Keating Crossroad in the plaza.

In business for 32 years, it was a great place for fresh bread, cookies, pastries and specialty loaves, as well as some of the most generous wraps I've ever seen. I personally will miss their poppy seed loaf and strudels, though if you hurry you can still find those fancy poppy seed loaves at Market Garden grocery store on Catherine St.

Congratulations to Betty and Joe on your retirement!

Wow, those poppy seed loaves are an Eastern European staple. I'll have to stop by the Catherine Street store and pick a couple up tomorrow.

Quick rip into town to load up on sugar for the grocery store, so of course went downtown to check on the condo and hammer back some lunch at the Dutch Bakery, dear lord they have a satisfying burger. Not trendy, not “smashed”, nothing burnt or smoked or micro greened, just a perfectly griddled patty on a soft white bun. Couple scoops of potato salad and a tall iced tea, maybe the perfect downtown lunch. And no liquor license!

Left with a dozen croquettes (our Dutch student said they are his favourite food from home), a small ribbon cake and one peanut butter cup.

And now I’ve added the Dutch bakery to my itinerary today. They should pay you a commission.

I didn't know they had things other than baked goods.

They have hamburgers.

Are they any good? Could you point us to a review?

I appreciate Matt's enthusiasm, but I'm not sure that malicious attack against micro-greens was really called for.

Yes that’s fair. The potato salad is scooped onto a single piece of leaf lettuce, more of a macro green.

They have a diner in the back, diner food, diner counter, if it’s busy they will ask you to share a table. You can see the menu online. Burger, soup, croquette all high recommended if you like food at all. The rest of it’s pretty normal.

All day breakfast too, but don’t tell the hipsters. They like a line up.

Sorry for the boring review.

It's not easy being micro-green.
