Forgotten Tureen Causes Consternation For Returning Dishwasher

TRAVIS PATERSON | Jan. 2, 2019 10:30 a.m. | COMMUNITY

University of Victoria cafeteria services worker Barb Plonk expressed frustration after returning to work January 2 that the previous shift failed to clean a chowder tureen adequately, causing unnecessary extra work.

The long-time employee, whose duties include dishwashing and sanitation supervision in the campus' busy cafeteria came to work Wednesday morning to find a chowder pot used to make a batch of creamy clam goodness on New Years' Eve had been left sitting empty and unwashed for two full days.

Plonk said that if the day shift had simply left it soaking in soapy water overnight, "it wouldn't have been such a frigging pain to scrub. It took me like most of a frigging hour to clean".

UVic spokesperson Paul Marck would not comment, claiming this was an internal personnel issue.

The heavy snowfall is having a serious impact on the delivery of the Times Colonist today.
No papers will be delivered to the West Shore, Sooke or Esquimalt because the truck could not reach the distribution centre.

keri coles has had a tragic cancer diagnosis

Keri Coles, who is sunshine in human form, has recently received a devastating diagnosis at 41 years of age. For those connected to her, near and far, this is an incomprehensible turn of events. In her words, via Facebook:

"We are no longer moving to Europe to pursue my master’s degree. I have just been diagnosed with advanced metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. Basically, non-smoker’s lung cancer that has spread and is not curable.

My oncologist said the average life expectancy for people in my condition is 6 months without treatment and 1.5 years with treatment.

There is a small 10 per cent chance of responding well to treatment and surviving 5 years and beyond.

i read the article.  it's accurate.  starting april 1st saanich police will go out of their way to run over dead animals.  use them for shooting target practice.  make jokes about them.  etc.

you laughed yesterday but now it's spreading to other civic workers.  first the cops disrespect dead animals and now school administrators are approaching bestiality with live ones.

i know that vicpd is under budget pressures but arming the police dogs with knives and needles surely isn't the solution.

I read a story a couple of years ago on the CBC website about cops arresting a shoplifter with an artificial leg. I guess you have to use whatever you have available, at the time.

We are living in unprecedented times brought about by the implications of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Orders from various levels of government have greatly affected our daily lives and that is certainly true here in Greater Victoria.

While the need for accurate and timely news has never been greater, we are taking the step of combining our Wednesday and Friday print editions into a single edition published on Thursday.

i'm not sure if "most" is accurate but certainly many of the black press free newspapers in washington state have stopped producing print editions.  a few title are closing altogether.

They couldn't stop print because Black's presses manufacture virtually every newsprint publication in the region including the TC, no? Unless the weird scenario occurred that Black's presses only existed to print their only competitor.

well that would be odd.  but they could stop print here and save on newsprint, printing plant staff and delivery fees (carriers).  it would be odd.  what regular flyers does black press carry these days?  that can be part of the factor.

I haven’t received a BP paper in eons. They’re clearly having delivery issues.
