What is the woman exiting the building going to step on?
It looks like dirt.

I like this building! It's heritage-looking without seeming inauthentic. and finally someone gets how well near-invisible glass + old brick looks together.

Well, when you cross a dog with a cat, who knows what type of lower intestines problems it has.

This project goes to Public Hearing November 27 to ask for its Development Permit.

Overall, I'm happy but there were a few battles along the way. The City advised the developer to drop the large semi-circular windows on the top floor which were replaced by the arched windows. I'm not sure why.

Interesting. It's not difficult to find semi-circular windows in the old town. Were they thinking such windows didn't belong near Chinatown?

Sometimes I think they make suggestions so that it seems like they actually have thought about a building. Personally if a change is that minor I say go with the architects decisions.

There is a lot of stuff on the agenda for the Council meeting on the 27th. It will be the last one for this Council so it will be a good one to watch.

This one should send everybody away in a good mood, I would think.

What happened with this one at council?

I see they call it 1725 Government, not 601 Herald...

This got a good reception and passed unanimously. Pam pointed out that she liked the first version better. The marketing name is 601 Herald but the original name for planning purposed was 1725 Government, which I think was the legal address of the lot.

I count at least three versions of the building: half-circle windows and flat facade, half-circle windows and bay windows below and setback facade, half-circle windows and no bay windows and setback facade and arched windows and set back facade and staggered roofline. That's four.

Haven't been able to find an existing thread on this project. I have it on fairly good authority that the developer hopes to break ground soon on this project - although I have my doubts about what 'soon' means, given that it doesn't appear to have gone through any public process, yet.

Linden invests in city

The newly-retired Canucks forward is connected with a new project

Carla Wilson, Times Colonist

Published: Friday, June 13, 2008

Former Vancouver Canucks forward Trevor Linden is a partner in a planned residential-commercial development on the corner of Herald and Government streets in Victoria.

Linden, who retired from a 20-year professional hockey career this week, is a co-investor with Vancouver companies Primewest, whose president is Paul Williams, and Formwerks Development Corp., with Howard Airey as president.

The other day I met somebody involved with the sales of the suites at 601 Herald and they told me it's the same group as from the start.
So much for my great source.....
