has anyone suggested one of these to move tourists? http://www.theguardi...ist-attractions
And I am sure you can imagine the predictable response from the residents of James Bay.

Hey has anyone heard about the plans to run a gondola from Ogden Point to the Inner Harbour? They have an open house on December 11 and will be appearing before the James Bay Neighbourhood Association meeting that evening. http://www.victoriaskyride.com/

http://www.timescolo...point-1.2046497The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority wants to hear your ideas on the future of Ogden Point.
The non-profit organization that owns and operates the 30-acre cruise-ship port at the entrance to Victoria Harbour has launched Phase 3 of its Ogden Point Master Plan. It begins with community consultations and public engagement events that will continue to November.
The process includes comments from the public online at ogdenpointmasterplan.mindmixer.com. There will also be information sessions, open houses, meetings with key stakeholders and groups and workshops planned.
The harbour authority said it is seeking input from James Bay residents, First Nations, businesses, the tourism industry and residents from across Greater Victoria as it works to develop a master plan. It is looking for insights on potential on-site public amenities, transportation, accessibility and pedestrian circulation, existing facilities and potential industrial, marine, institutional and commercial uses.
The authority has already completed the first two phases of the master plan, a technical feasibility study and a market assessment.
Phase 4 is the final step and involves creating a master plan document. That will take place between this November and December 2016.

http://www.timescolo...night-1.2114999The public is invited to have a say on the future of Ogden Point on Thursday night.
The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority is hosting a “community conversation” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to look at the Ogden Point Master Plan. Information has also been gathered through an online forum and workshops and from stakeholders, including the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations, James Bay residents and tourism operators.
The effort is looking at Phase 3 of the master plan, which focuses on development at Ogden Point, short-term and long-term possibilities, and how the harbour authority and stakeholders will be affected.
Phases 1 and 2 of the plan were concluded in 2013. Phase 3 is due to be completed this month, while Phase 4 — which will include an illustrated layout plan for the site — is due to start this December and be completed in a year.

Among the preferences so far are maintaining open spaces and keeping views of the water, he said.
Open spaces = parking lots
Views of the water = from parking lots, across parking lots
Turning warehouses into a community area is another suggestion, perhaps with a performance venue...
Seriously, every development proposal everywhere since I don't know when -- maybe 1950 or so? -- has been burdened with this consideration. Why? Are there not enough performance venues? Are there not enough sites that could be improvised for use as performance venues as needed? I mentioned one time how the original concept for Hillside Mall (of all places) included a theatre space. I don't know, it just seems so artificial and bureaucratic and arbitrary. Cultural space? Check! A performance space is like ice cream. It will make anything better.
You know how Ogden Point is so special because it's perched right on the edge of the ocean with the big ships coming and going and the snow-capped mountains in the distance? Wouldn't it be better if there was a jumbotron, so that we could watch TV?
Here's an idea: eliminate the parking lots as much as possible and introduce an elevated area that provides significantly better ocean views, as well as a view back to the city. How about that? Throw in a restaurant, green space, public art, a play area, telescopes...
I don't know, aastra. That smells like development and everybody knows that development blocks views, even when it creates and/or improves views.

Great idea, build a roller coaster to take advantage of the vista, and have a slide to the coaster that connects directly to the cruise ships to enhance a passenger's shore excursion experience.

I could go for a roller coaster and a ferris wheel there.

I attended out of interest and was very underwhelmed with the open house setup, and the proposals. For such a unique space in the city, the proposal were rather generic and uninspired.
I would of expected better from Stantec

I like the idea of a roller coaster or ferris wheel. But it will never fly. Can you imagine the poor folks who live around there. They already put up with the sounds of the cruise ships and helicopters. They would freak out if another noisy enterprise were to be thrust upon them.

Or they could say "if you can't beat them join them".

As a compromise, how about a shopping village themed theme park and fishing centre?
