2016 Rifflandia line-up

I have no idea who any of these bands are. Am I getting old? Good news is there doesn't appear to be any lame hip hop. Last year's line-up included some goofs who swore up a storm. Granted they got the kids bobbing their heads but I couldn't decipher any word other than fu... ...over and over. Lame-o.

- Michael Franti

- Wolf Parade

- Band of Skulls

- X Ambassadors

- Shane Koyczan

- Coleman Hell

- Jesse Roper

- Goldfish

- Tennyson

- We Are the City

- Entangandos

- Michael Bernard Fitzgerald

Band of Skulls and Roper are the only ones I've heard of.  But I could not name any of their songs, or recognize them on radio.

This seems to be the trend I'm hearing from the people I've been asking. It used to be a great mix of old/new/up and coming  artists but the line up hasn't been as good the past couple years. This could be the first year I pass up

Seems like the sizzle is all but gone from local music festivals. I'm sure they'll still be lots of fun, but there's nothing special going on.

I'm still bitter that Chromeo ditched Victoria at last year's Rifflandia.

I'm actually really liking the Rock the Shores line-up, 7 bands there that I like.

City and Colour, Metric (I've met the band twice, they are one of my top-10), Arkells, Current Swell, July Talk, Dear Rouge and Kytami.

Jurassic 5 and De La Soul is all I know. Both are 90's rap groups. They've played Victoria quite a number of times.

Is it just me or is the festival having a hard time attracting major headliners? Last year's biggest act (at least in my opinion), Chromeo, backed out last minute.

Very good news. The guys at Atomique Productions are bringing a smokin' music fest to downtown, August 29-31. The website at www.rifflandia.com doesn't give much away yet, but their Facebook page says there'll be "over 50 musical acts in eight different venues," including Black Mountain, DJ Z-Trip, Man Man, The Walkmen, Final Fantasy, Blitzen Trapper, and Guns N Bombs.

These names may not mean much to some readers, but they're big in the Pitchfork/Ditch Records/indie music scene, and most of them will also be playing Bumbershoot in Seattle on the Labour Day weekend. This event will get a lot of kids from up the Island and over from Vancouver.

Ah, 2008.

Looks like not much has really changed in terms of lineup.

As part of their target demographic, to me this is the least appealing lineup so far. I also don't know anyone who is planning on attending Snoozefest 2016 this year.

Agreed. First year in a long time I'm thinking of skipping.

Heard there is supposed to be one more announcement ..

X Ambassadors you had to have heard on the Zone or as a TV commercial https://www.youtube....t=RD1u-niluB8HI

Most people were more excited for Prozzak .... Go figure :( https://www.youtube....h?v=szk2xYIVKrQ Would almost be better off with a 90's band fest in Vic.

Ya that X Ambassadors song very catchy.

Yes they licensed it to Jeep (Renegade model).

Anyone heard anything about a lineup release for this year's Rifflandia?

By this time last year they had released their initial lineup as well as a second wave.

Pemberton announced their 2016 lineup in early April, this year they announced it April 28th. And that festival is in July, so much less time between that announced acts and the performances! Rifflandia isn't until September, so they've got plenty of time.
