Wouldn't it be funny if the snake had swallowed the ring?

Following up on the wooden pipe infrastructure discussion:

District of Saanich 2016 Accomplishments:

Replacement of 5,000 m of watermains, replacement of 3,040 m of sanitary sewers, 860 m of substandard storm drains, and 1,325 m of wood stave storm drains.

Work starting in 2018:

Three (3) locations require sanitary sewer rehabilitation and one (1) location requires storm drain rehabilitation.  The existing storm drains include wood stave and asbestos cement and range in diameter from 450 to 1130 mm.

Interesting find in Gordon Head near Mt. Doug. As mentioned above Saanich is replacing old storm drains and have removed this 100 year old wooden drain.

You can see the corroded hoops that held the pipe together and I've pointed to the tongue-and-groove section of the curved board showing how the staves fit snugly. It reeked of creosote.

that's a pipe?

that's very clearly a (early?) 60's house in the photo.  i imagine that houses were few and far between back then even in that area.  there's a few oldies right on cedar hill road maybe from 40's and 50's.  do you think this was more a storm culvert back then?

It's an early '60s subdivision so I was surprised to see it. There are a few old houses from that era here and there. But I don't think they'd bother putting an underground culvert in farmland unless they were planning imminent development.

City of Victoria warning people not to flush any disposable wipes, even the ones labeled flushable. They say they are starting to see clogging in the sanitary sewage pipe systems.
