crap - I hope that Steve doesn't figure out that I have played soccer with him a couple of times and once wrote to Fitness World claiming to be in a wheelchair to get out of a contract.

So some reports say Steve Nash might be done for good, although the Lakers deny that.

I noticed that he is not in the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame.  Deadline for nominations is Februrary 28th.  I'll guess if he retires before then, he'll be nominated.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash has been ruled out for the season because of a back injury,

putting the two-time NBA MVP's career in doubt.

Not that I've ever seen him actually working out in any SNFW I frequent which is several of them both here and on the mainland, lol. Although the Victoria location is moving to Uptown, after years of rumored moves, and a few minor tepid renos to the existing location, I rather suspect ol' Steve uses it as a tax write off as much as anything. Hopefully with the Cloverdale location move will come some badly needed new equipment.

Here's the financial implications of Nash staying or retiring.

Interesting; the club, of which I've been a member since 1998 when I signed up while living in Vancouver, does employ a lot of contractor and P/T employees who certainly do work stat holidays, occasional and irregular hours. That said, according to the woman bringing the suit "many" of her FW colleagues are unaware of the ESA and "have no idea" it even exists - huh? Really? Then shame on them.....

That said it'll be interesting to see how this plays out as in parallel there is or was at least a separate suit brought by Steve Nash to have the club cease using his name as part of their promotional and marketing strategy and to remove altogether any perceived or real association with him. Not sure where that one stands currently.

Seriously?  Shame on them for expecting their employer to abide by the law?

Swing and a miss: "No" - quite obviously - in answer to your question.

My point was how can any employee - with any modicum of intelligence or even average awareness - not know there is an Employment Standards Act, or an Employment Standards government Branch and certainly a provincial Labor Code? And that employers can't just do what they please wherever and whenever they feel like it. What are these people - 4 years old?

I knew there was a labor code and had at least a vague awareness there was a government agency - somewhere - that oversaw it when I was 16. There are no 16 year olds working at FW......

If you actually talk to kids they will tell you unpaid overtime and other employer shenanigans are simply the nature of the business. Sad but true.

Kids these days can pick any job they want and dictate their own employment terms. I doubt too many are working overtime for free. The first time they are not paid they would be out the door and working across the street.

And we've come full circle. Steve Nash Fitness World has been purchased by unnamed owners who plan to rebrand the chain. SNFW previously filed for creditor protection in April, and has had high-profile legal disputes with namesake Steve Nash over the branding in the years following Nash's departure from the company.

I can't think of another company where a guy didn't endorse it even though it's his name above the door.

All I can think of is Bachman/Cummings and The Guess Who.

^But are there cases where the famous name actively distances themselves from the product?

Tim Horton didn't live long enough to see his company become a global corporation that squeezes small franchisees with brutal fees.

Vibrant Victoria never sanctioned her stage name for this forum.

True story. She contacted me waaaay back when and said "my dancing career is over, want to buy my VibrantVictoria.com" URL?
