This is perhaps the largest project Sidney has seen in almost a decade. It's also shaping up to be the tallest project north of Saanich.

A cute building, perfect size for the community. I don't think anyone would disagree.

Now if we could extrapolate this being the perfect size of a new 'large' landmark building for that community based on the population and needs, I wonder what the size would be for a similar project given Victoria's population.

I've heard some negative remarks about how wide it is. I agree with that, it should have had a cut-out in the middle section.

The only thing Victorians love more than fatscrapers is complaining about fatscrapers after they've been built.

Also, wouldn't this be the largest project Sidney has seen in twenty years at least?

One nice thing about this building is that it doesn't have a "back" side. The side facing west (back toward Sidney) has just as many windows as the side facing the ocean.

This is a classic example of what the anti height mind set creates. Though it's an attractive building it blocks the complete view of the ocean. If however this was a twin slim tower design, you could acheive the same units or more yet maintian some views.

I think it's a great building for a town the size of Sidney. It looks very modern and hopefully brings more to Sidney as it's pretty much just old people and their walkers up there and crappy stores.

I couldn't see towers in Sidney, plus I don't think they would be allowed due to the airport being so close. I think it's the Richmond for Greater Victoria.

I completely agree Sidney is not in need of towers. Sidney's current and growing charm is due to the amount of building in the 6 storey range that have zero setbacks and ground floor commercial.

Too massive for the location. It blocks the view to the water for a big portion of Beacon Street.
It also hide all business to the north of it; the marina, three restaurants, a gallery, the marine museum at the marina and the rock museum. All of these business will suffer because of it.

I'd swap one of the Songhees buildings for that thing in a second.

Even if it is much too wide, and even if it does need a big cut-out between the two sections. Maybe a complete separation of the two sections.

The glass looks nice. Is not there a curved detail of some sort on the other side? Did I dream that?

We should get a stamp made that reads, "Too wide."

Yeah this is far better than pretty much anything apart from Shutters at Songhees.

I've decided I would rather swap this for the Trendwest building instead of one of the Songhees buildings.

Call me in fifteen years, and see if this design isn't as reviled as the Songhees is now.

Trendwest was reviled before it was finished.

Why do developers build fatscrapers?

Because they can.

Nobody's forcing them to build slim towers with small footprints.

So what is the best way to build buildins while saving views.....

Here in Sidney it isn't just mountains but also the Sea and beach....

So for those who live behind the Pier...The last mock up is what these people see.
