^ all good points.

Hence my reference to the back story.

How could two operators survive?...especially now.

Speaking just as a resident, I find it a shame the little ferries will disappear. They were charming. We used to take my daughter for little jaunts around in the summer because for kids, they're cute. Some kind of electric boat probably won't have the same charm. I would have to see them, but if I were a Victoria grandparent looking for something to do this summer, the little ferries were right up there on the list, not used to "go" anywhere but riding them because they're cool. Will the new electric boats be performing to classical music?

no.  they are set to only perform to bon jovi.

let's face it barry hobbis dug his own grave when he objected to the boob cruise.  which is essentially the pride parade on water - for heterosexuals.  j/k.

The ferry docks themselves--who built and paid for them? 100% GVHA or does Hobbis have or claim equity in them?

false creek has multiple operators (or did)

Maybe focus less on the tourists more on the transportation?

Maybe more open air boats.

My first thought when I saw the article was that it was too bad Barry didn’t have other business with the GVHA he could bundle in.

Just thinking aloud.

For everyone who needs to commute from one side of the harbour to the other?

It would be nice for locals to have it function as a water taxi instead of an overpriced tour boat. Folks at Fisherman's Wharf using it to get downtown. Folks who live downtown using it to get to Fisherman's Wharf, or Spinnaker's, or Glo.

But I imagine there isn't really enough business to make that viable. At least not if the Harbour Authority is still pricing dock access like we have thousands of cruise ship passengers walking around.

Remember you should be able to get a boat at least up to the reversing falls. (I can get my boat through the reversing falls and when you shoot out at certain tides it’s like an amusement park ride).

“We are grateful to have Ralmax’s interest and professionalism to help move us through this challenging season,” said Victoria Harbour Ferry chief executive Barry Hobbis. “From crisis to opportunity in a weekend. This is a new day and we are all in this together.”

John Wilson, chief executive of Wilson’s Transportation, said the confusion resulting from Victoria Harbour Ferry’s decision last week did get him thinking about bringing forward his new electric boat business this year.

Wilson had originally planned to launch the Victoria Electric Boat Company in 2020 with a small fleet of electric boats ferrying people around stops on the Inner Harbour and beyond.

Those plans were shelved with the dawn of the pandemic.

“Our plan since COVID hit was to delay the Victoria Electric Boat Company to a 2021 start given the impact on tourism this crazy season has had to date and expected for the rest of the year,” he said.

Wilson said he was caught off guard by the Harbour Ferry story and had contacted his partners to see if they should start this year if Victoria Harbour Ferry did indeed shut down.

One would think we have more driftwood in our ocean than the natural load what with construction, logging, etc?
