Hillside-Quadra, Sunday May 2nd.

West Bay, Sunday May 2nd.

Jane’s Walk Vision
Walkable neighbourhoods, urban literacy, cities planned for and by people.

Our History
Jane’s Walk was inaugurated on May 5, 2007 in Toronto by a group of Jane’s friends and colleagues who wanted to honour her ideas and legacy, Mary Rowe, Margie Zeidler, Chris Winter, Alan Broadbent and Ann Peters. The first Jane’s Walk began with Mayor David Miller proclaiming it Jane Jacobs Day. 27 tours were offered by volunteer local guides who got hundreds of people out exploring their neighbourhoods.

Somehow I doubt Ms. Jacob's would have signed up for one of these, unless they are for pointing out the errors.

When I think of Jane Jacobs principles quadra-hillside is one of the first places that jumps out at me. The wide busy streets, the cheap single-use apartment blocks with their huge setbacks, the strip malls and shopping centres. Ah, urban paradise.

The only Jane's walk I'd be interested in would involve torches and pitchforks and would end at city hall. Sometimes I'd like to beat most of city hall to death with some hardcovers of her books, but that would be a waste of good books. And we'd end up getting another batch of vision-less planners and ignorant crooks the next election anyways, oh well.

It's not 2010, but Jane's Walk Victoria is back for another year of exploration. The walks are posted on their website https://sites.google...q_hY8K6R1klKeNk

None of those walks are of any particular interest to me. I guess it relates more to Jacobs' later works in environmentalism than her ground-breaking urban writing of the early 60s.

It's like going to a Rolling Stones concert. The post-2000 stuff, eh, not so much.
