Turns one next month...

On Friday August 20th 2010 we would like to invite you, and a guest, to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of Touch Lounge.

The evening will begin at 8:00pm with a friends and family reception, featuring a selection of hors d'oeuvres, beverages, music, and visuals to highlight the past year at Touch Lounge.

On August 20th, dress sharp and helps us commemorate this occasion, it would not have been possible without friends such as yourself.

Maybe someone meant it to be déjà vu

It's a pun, obviously.  Not a good one, either.  But better than Plan B or Rehab, I think.

Roughly French for "again you", deja vous is the experience of thinking that one has been oneself before, perhaps in a past life, or in this same one, but several days ago. Extremely self-aware people are often unable to avoid experiencing deja vous throughout every minute of their waking lives.

(Not to be confused with "deja vu", a common and easier-to-spell phrase in both English and French.)

When I got up this morning and washed my face, the reflection peering back at me in the mirror gave me a distrubing impression of deja vous. I cannot help but ask, will I still be me again tomorrow? And in the days and weeks after that?

After 13 years on View Street, welcoming thousands of great friends through the doors, we have closed the doors pending the sale of DejaVous Nightclub and Lounge. We have decided to focus all of our efforts on operations at Sugar Nightclub, making way for a new ownership group to step in at View Street.

As part of this transition our core staff and management from DejaVous will join the team at Sugar with the goal of taking Sugar to a new level of entertainment, live music, and nightlife in Victoria. Sugar will now be open consistently Thursday Friday and Saturday plus additional special event nights. Check out Sugar NightClub for upcoming events and come visit your favorite DéjàVous staff and D.J.s this coming Friday Saturday.

Thanks for being a part of our journey for the last 13 years!

We are hearing the accepted offer includes a clause that it can't operate like a nightclub, for a certain umber of years, sort of an anti-compete clause, since the seller still owns another nightclub.

A major sigh of relief for people living in that area, for sure. There's nothing quite like a bunch of 19-25-year-olds exiting a club at 2AM Thursday-through-Saturday deafened by the noise from within and feeling it is their duty to proclaim as loud as they can how drunk they are complete with obligatory f-bombs and the odd display of bravado that inevitably draws sirens.

Am I getting old?

No, even a 20-year-old gets tired of this - on nights they are not they themselves drinking.

Ha, that's great news - I do believe I made a comment suggesting that Yuk Yuk's could go there when they got the boot from the other location, good place for it. Looking forward to it.

I think it's a terrible location and would much prefer a space with a great ground floor presence like Garrick's Head, Bard & Banker or even Yates St Taphouse.

I don''t think this is the kind of place that's open when no show is happening.

Any word on when they expect to open?   Upstairs, downstairs, doesn't matter much It's about time we get some comedy in the city centre. If people know it's there they will go.

I'm actually predicting this will do poorly.  I don't think it's a sustainable business model.  It'll be murder finding quality staff, expensive to bring in quality name-brand talent, and the per-person spending on drinks will be fairly dismal, esp. on weekdays.

Why?

This is a fantastic use of the space. I am sure they are doing a renovation lol.

Can't it operate as a bar + a comedy club? They can have live music and such when there's no comedy taking place, or is that against Yuk Yuk's terms?

It's against the lease terms.
