Aha. A sort of non-compete with the former owner of Touch?

If so this will be tricky.

That's exactly right.

The YY's in St. John's only opens 4 nights a week and Wedneday is just local unpaid amateurs.

There is however a chance that Hecklers will be dropping comedy, if the rumoured takeover makes it a 7-night karaoke bar.

Why?

This is a fantastic use of the space. I am sure they are doing a renovation lol.

As I said, I would much prefer a space with a great ground floor presence like Garrick's Head, Bard & Banker or even Yates St Taphouse.

It's a dead street with no atmosphere. The building is hideous. There's no walk by traffic.

Well, there is pretty limited walk-by traffic at the Royal, McPherson and SOFMC, and they are the biggest entertainment venues in the core.

The VEC gets loads of shows and events going on as well - upstairs, limited street traffic, kind of a gross space really but they even tape web based shows in there. Would renting out the Yuk Yuks space for events on 'off' nights be an option for this space to brig in extra revenue?

View Street is actually quite a busy little thoroughfare, actually. It doesn't seem like it is, though.

A female bathroom attendant in the male bathroom could make or break this.

comedy is as much a destination use as high traffic so people will seek it out. Their requirements are more about the room shape and liquor primary, so that has probably been at the top of their list and they will only be using the space three nights a week for a few hours so again, hard to find a space that can fit that kind of schedule affordably

Keep in mind the rent is probably much lower at this location AND next door is Hermann's Jazz Club. Destination business. No need to rely on foot traffic, just need to sell tickets.

You also have that lazer tag place to add to the list of destination businesses.

Now I wonder if you could do all 3 in one night.

Start at Hermans listening some smooth jazz, blow off some steam at lazer tag and then enjoy some laughs at Yuk Yuks?

Of all potential users of precious ground floor space, comedy clubs are way down the list of desirable tenants. You want a tenant that is vibrant during the day. An actual comedian tells me basement venues are best. He also doubts Victoria can support two comedy clubs.

Hecklers is leaving the comedy business, no?

Why are they less desirable? And to whom?

It's been listed for sale for some time, and there is potential interest to make it a karaoke club.

Caught Mike MacDonald at Yuk Yuk's Saturday night.

Great venue, very nimble staff, and the place was full.

Nice.
