^ I thought that the rat colony that currently resides within would have eaten it by now.

We can expect a six-storey residential and retail building on this site, from Empresa Properties, which will purchase the land and two adjacent parcels pending a successful rezoning and development permit.

This building is most famous and popular for having no setbacks. Something we are not into anymore.

Former Ian's Coffee Shop building could get new lease on life

Empresa Properties has conditionally acquired the Turner Building, with plans for a six-storey structure with a “bold flat-iron design” that would replicate the current building’s rounded frontage.

Ok for those of you that moved here after Ian's Coffee Stop (not shop) closed, and you are interested in what it was like inside.....or for those of you that want to remember the good old days.....this music video is for you.

This video was originally posted and linked on Vibrant Victoria back in June of 2009 by B. Bridge in the Closed/Defunct restaurants thread. It was originally linked to an "Ourtube" page.

Here you go....enjoy. (WARNING this song is a bit of an earworm....I can't seem to let go of it)

Looks great!

I pass by this building fairly regularly and I've found myself wondering what is in its future. I think its been boarded up for some time now.....?
I think I only ever went in there once and found it to be a true 'greasy spoon', lotsa vinyl and stools at the counter.
Does anyone know what the situation is with the building?
I did a search (probably a feeble one, as I don't seem to have the best of luck with searches.....) and was only able to come up with the following details http://www.libertyan...ner/Turner.html.

13 years in.

Maybe it'll be built by 2036.

I don't hate it. It does seem like a lot of walls vs. windows, but perhaps that's just the rendering.

Yes, in the other rendering within the article you can see those are slats and look like there are few windows, at that angle.

I did see the other rendering. There still seems like a bit too much wall to me.

I prefer this over the previous proposal.

And just for accuracy, Ian’s was called “Coffee Stop” not “Coffee Shop”.

This new proposal would be a great looking building imo.

I don’t understand the lopsided look. Psychologically it’s jarring to see a building that looks top heavy. It’s subtly unsettling, and there’s enough overtly unsettling things in my urban view that I don’t appreciate it.

^ I agree, especially when the rendering appears to have a gradually increasing overhang on the east side only… not the west.

I am also struggling to understand the exterior window baffles. Can someone help me with that?

I like it, we need more funky buildings in Victoria. I'm always hear that all the new buildings look the same, well here's something different.
