Apparently this finally opened in the last few weeks - it's located in the basement of the Station House Pub.

Facebook page is here: https://www.facebook...eCocktailLounge

EDIT: Just browsing said Facebook page and they are claiming to be "Victoria's first cocktail lounge". I wonder where that leaves Clive's, Veneto, Oyster Bar, etc.? I'm sure they'll have something to say about that. ;)

Nice find. I guess the Condo's all sold and the "Blue Pearl" can open again... Real nice decor for a club I can't believe it sat empty for so long. For a "Svelte Cocktail Lounge" you think they would have a drink menu online?.

What year was "Da Tandoor" on Fort st a Ukrainian/Russian themed bar? If I had to take a wild guess it would be 1960-65.

I can't imagine "Cointreau" being a popular drink by itself on the menu :o.

Word on the street is Svelte will become Victoria's newest strip bar. Preparations are now underway with an official opening for dancers in the near future.

Confirmed by Michal D. Reid in today's TC.

Some time on October 20th the dancing begins.

The Hard way to Victoria

...The official wrap party for the homegrown flick featuring cameos by Pamela Anderson, Jamie Kennedy, Rob Wells, Nicole Sullivan and more is being hosted Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. by Svelte Lounge on the night of the Langford nightclub's pre-grand opening.

Svelte is being transformed into a lush gentlemen's club
and Hanus assures us there will be some wild visual surprises, a Jackhammer beverage special, protein shots courtesy of Popeye's and more.

Very, very few people from Victoria/Saanich will regularly make the trek to Langford to enjoy the latest and greatest in gentlemen's entertainment. Once the novelty wears off will they survive with only local patrons?

Well, Colwood/Langford has the demographic of people that will stay out until 3am, if anywhere does.

28,000 people live in Langford, 18,000 in Colwood.

Port Alberni, Williams Lake, Salmon Arm, Smithers, Merritt and Kitimat all have strip bars.

And yet, you appear to be the only one who did notice.  Also, in your previous post from a couple of years ago it sure seemed like you pulled up that list of cities pretty quickly!

All kidding aside VHF, and on a serious related note, I saw a news segment recently on Global BC1 concerning Vancouver's ever dwindling population of strip clubs.  It was funny because it was during their regular chit-chat session where Anne Drewa and the weather gal chat up the next segment with the sports guy.  Of course Anne looks at the sports guy and says "you're going to love this next segment"...  Nothing but awkward moments from that point until they played the segment.  It was basically a piece on the No. 5 Orange strip club in downtown and how it was one of only a handful of "surviving" clubs in Vancouver.  They asked the long time manager why there was such a big decline in clubs and his answer was simple: "the internet".  Duh.  :P

Ya, I saw that.  You know, I'm not convinced the internet is per se the stripper-bar killer.  I think that they never evolved, customer service was never their thing.  Usually you have a grumpy bartender that's been there for years, and maybe a waitress or two that's the same.  They just relied on the fact they had the only place with naked girls.

Now when they have to compete with the internet, they have not sharpened any of their other skills.  But go to Vegas, or Atlanta, San Francisco, or even Brandy's in Vancouver.  Some places still know how to do it well.

For a while now, Portland has claimed the title of most strips clubs per capita in the country. It's hard to discern whether this is an old sexy wives tale or statistical fact, but one thing is certain: this town has an abundance of eccentric and very naked establishments. The State Supreme Court has long protected the right of strip joints to host totally nude entertainment, so, of course, leave it to Portlanders to create a club for every taste: for instance, Casa Diablo serves only vegan food and allows its strippers to shed only non-animal-based clothing. Meanwhile, Acropolis Steakhouse serves up discounted, locally procured T-bones with your T. & A. (Check out the online mag Portland BarFly for listings.)

Classic, one is famous for being vegan, one famous for great steak.  The vegan one has topless bartenders too.  The closest Washington State can get is bikini baristas.

I think you are correct. The Internet didn't kill the strip bar--it killed the adult theatre.

“It’s going to need some scrubbing,” Mr. Duprey said of the Fox on Thursday, standing outside the tattered establishment on Main Street in the [Vancouver] neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant with his business partner, Rachel Zottenberg.

“Lots of bleach,” he said, with relish. “When you want to get a job done right, sometimes you have just got to get in there and do it yourself.”

"Beaver, ahoy!""The bridge is like a magnet, attracting both pedestrians and over 30,000 vehicles daily who enjoy the views of Victoria's harbour. The skyline may change, but "Big Blue" as some call it, will always be there."
-City of Victoria website, 2009
