Meh. I thought the morning show was pitiful anyway.

Sucks hard about the job losses though.

As much as that show was becoming an extended infomercial, I really enjoyed it as part of my day. At least I could get news and weather from people who weren't completely plastic.

I LOVED the morning show. After Dave and Simi were let go in Vancouver, I was so happy to have the A Morning Show on every day.

Why the hell were Dave and Simi let go?
They've got some stupid producers @ City if you ask me. There duo before them were great too.

I believe Dave and Simi were too expensive, both being long veterans of broadcasting.

I'm sad we lost our morning show.

From WestCoaster.ca
PORT ALBERNI — 'A' News has closed its Port Alberni television news bureau, laying off video journalist David Wiwchar in the process.

“We are consolidating our newsgathering resources in our mid-Island bureau in Nanaimo. As a result, we are eliminating our video journalist positions in Campbell River and Port Alberni,” news director Hudson Mack wrote in an e-mail to employees.

This is a sad period - direct mainstream television production is leaving the island. CTV, CBC can no longer afford to keep local, or mobile units under the recent financial restrictions.

I personally look forward to community developments - there is a huge gap to be filled and certainly some cable, or online, channels will come up to not only fill, but exceed, the gap.

Has anyone watched the "A" live coverage of CFAX's morning talk show yet? I keep forgetting to tune in and see how it looks. Or how Easingwood looks in make-up.

It's fine until the host throws to a pre-taped segment like the stock report. Then viewers watch a guy with nothing to do but twiddle his thumbs until he's back live.

I imagine it has increased business for those who sell dress shirts, haircuts and razors.

I actually like this new format.

I can turn on the TV actually get some news in the 10 minutes i have before heading out to work, 'A' morning always had some interview with Sally Smith and her all girl orchestra or some other non-relevant thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for arts and such, but when i have 5 minutes to figure out how the weather is going to be, what traffic is like, and how many have been hit in the recent shooting in Vancouver, I don't care what play is coming to town. Even the ticker on the bottom of the screen is much improved. its got a good dozen or so headlines, as apposed to the 2 at times on A morning followed by 20 baseball scores.

There is still room for a bit of fine tuning on CFAX TV. dig up a picture of the mystery voice, instead of just cutting to the green, yellow red, uppy downy voice thing (that's the technical name in case you ever wondered :P ).

I say, good improvement overall, and if its cheaper for them, that's good too.

Wow I laughed over that exchange! Seymour has a point - ultimately the 'user' will choose a medium (web/tv/radio/print) to get quick news, and people do change usage preference during the day, on days off/weekends and holidays.

CTV Global media knows they can (should) offer free online flash media streaming for general web and mobile media (live - not pre recorded) for all channels, but as they can't even get that right for the CTV main channel, local loses even more. CBC should do the same.

It's the one reason radio is still doing well - although CBC local Victoria is in serious need of public support (it maybe up for the axe)

If either wish to not only maintain, but enhance local media - get channels and mediums that work for you, then everyone needs to 'lightly' hit themselves with a 'pink fluffy slipper'. We are the consumers, it's the direct response age - if you don't like it, you know what to do....
