And yes, the 10 worst/lame entries should not get invited back.  The Victoria Shamrocks/Slegg truck was one of the worst today.  They really phoned it in.  A huge flatbed truck just festooned with maybe 30 ballons.

I would like to see a giant lacrosse stick next year.

Need to start envisioning streets that can accommodate large parade balloons don't think you can say you have a genuine parade till you have that.

Also, we had two - count em', two - helicopters fly over.  But they both went the same way, one sort of over the other.  It'd be better if they came in lower and went right at one another like a game of chicken over Yates and Douglas.

Chicken Over Yates would be a great name for a band.

Scary enough just watching for falling bolts from the Sea King.

Huh, I didn't even see the choppers.

Definitely some lame entries. Also, still plenty of ways to tighten this up and shave another 20 minutes, get it to 2 hours max. One idea - ban Bruce Dean, he slows everyone down for pictures.

That last marching band though, wow.

This year we will have a helicopter and two CF-18's.

This year’s parade starts with 443 Squadron Sea King Helicopter flown by Captain Daniel Schade and Capt. Nick Villa, with Cpl. Andrew Ginting, the Airborne Sensor Operator (AESOP) in the back seat at 8:55 AM.

But you’ll need your earplugs for the F18 Hornets that fly by next! Major Phil Meikle is the lead pilot with Capt Brian Kilroy as his wingman.

Let's hope the Sea King can remain airborne for the entire flypast.

Victoria Day Parade pays tribute to Humboldt; watch on Victoria Buzz, CHEK

The Island Farms Victoria Day Parade, one of Canada’s oldest, marks its 120th year Monday.

As always, the parade starts at 9 a.m. at Mayfair Shopping Centre and heads down Douglas Street to Humboldt Street, where it disperses. Running time is estimated at three hours.

I laugh a bit at that... you know you do not have to see it all, right?  It's not like a sporting event, where you stay to see who wins.

The parade will be a little more compact this year than last, with 95 entries, said spokeswoman Kelly Kurta, during a break from the constant flow of emails and that comes with organizing the event. “We cut it a bit this year,” she said. “There’s 95 plus the military, so you’ve still got over 100.”

But heck, even the sporting event thing.  I had Salmon Kings season tickets for 3 or 4 years. I rarely bothered going for the first period, the last 2 were fine.

Yes, true, but you DO have to be there at the start if you want a decent seat with your kids.

How about as a tribute to Humbolt, the :"fundraisers" actually pay the families their share of the $15M that was raised!

Oak Bay Rotarians are renewing their Canada flag fundraiser for its ninth year.

Under the program, Rotarian volunteers install Canadian flags in celebration of Victoria Day, Canada Day and Labour Day, collecting them after the weekends. The cost is $50.

Interested parties can email obrflags@gmail.com or visit oakbayrotary.ca for more information.

The Victoria Day Parade, the city’s largest annual parade, has been postponed for yet another year due to safety concerns surrounding COVID-19.

The Greater Victoria Festival Society, which hosts the annual event, has also ruled out a plan to film and broadcast a smaller version of the parade incorporating videos supplied by the marching bands that typically take part.
