Any updates on the Hudson brewpub? Haven't heard or seen anything and they're a year-ish late according to the article - not good signs...

Any place there with a liquor license would have done extremely well when the World Juniors were here.

Unsure, but they have applied for a liquor license according to VicMap

Dood, you cite the knock-off TC article instead of Citified's exclusive? [Facepalm]

The proposal at the hands of the Yates Street Taphouse owners (as a duo) is dead as originally planned back in late 2016/early 2017. One of the owners is moving forward with it along with other investors. News is coming in the next few weeks.

If it's a liquor infraction they are required to display a sign saying so.

The City has just done a mailout to locals, seeking comments on a proposed Lounge Endorsement for "Herald Street Brew Works" @ 506 Herald. Proposed hours are 0900-0200 and the occupant load is 178. Deadline for comments to the City/Liquor Control Board is 11 February.

Awesome! This is the collaboration between The Drake and Steele & Oak Brew Co (New Westminster) detailed in the Citified article: https://victoria.cit...ria-s-old-town/

They might have to walk a whole block to deal with any issues.  :whyme:

There's an application for a liquor primary at the former Terroir Tea Merchant store at 832 Fort St. Looks like some sort of tap house format. Seems like a long shot.

That would make for a cool little beer parlour, actually.

Given the distance from the downtown core...

50% of readers polled thought "the Hudson district's extremely far distance from the downtown core" sounded right, whereas the other 50% preferred "the Hudson district's nonexistent distance from the downtown core".

She said she’s not surprised by the police comments. “Because in the late-night hours, it’s not bylaw [enforcement] that gets called, it’s the police,” she said.

I hate to be a stinker, but are police really spending of a lot of their time dealing with noise complaints downtown? Maybe they are, but if dealing with noise complaints is such a big deal that it's actually worth noting by a city councillor, then I'm going to suggest there might be some issues down at the department re: prioritization of calls.

I'm not disagreeing that there would be noise complaints. I'm sure there would be. When a flea farts after 8pm (anywhere, not just in Victoria) you can probably expect a noise complaint from somebody. I'm just surprised that police would actually be responding to noise complaints downtown unless the circumstances seemed suspicious or exceptional, etc. It doesn't quite jibe with personal experience, I'll put it that way.

an 11 pm bar closing time would be most unusual.

I have pubs on either side of me on the Gorge and that's not downtown. Guess what, pubs exist outside of downtown

...and that's not downtown.

Check the official map of downtown's boundaries. There's actually a narrow sliver six inches wide that extends all the way out to those pubs.

So have you ever seen police responding to noise complaints at those pubs?

As a Commonwealth nation we have a long history of neighbourhood pubs outside of downtown! Maybe the operator should pull the heritage card...

Perhaps the name of the completed pub could be The Sir John A @ The Hudson. That aught to be good for several hours of heated debate in the CoV council chambers.  ;)

I'm sure someone will argue that he's already got one local pub, Big Bad John's
