It certainly has an important role to play, as Gman mentioned. But it’s value is high due to the president, for sure.

The benefit of twitter over other mediums is the crows sourced immediacy. It is like VV on an industrial scale. You get to know what is is happening literally as it does and for whatever reason, Facebook has not been able to mirror that. Perhaps it is that there is a true single stream of info that can be dialed into that provides that info, I am not sure. In someways, Twitter is like having all the old telegraphs go to one place.

I'm obviously using twitter incorrectly. Where do you get to know what is happening literally as it does unless you're following somebody that does something. Do you follow all the news media outlets or what?

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.

I think Twitter is another form of addiction.

Click the search icon if you’re on mobile and it’ll show you the latest trending topics.

It’s literally to the second unfiltered (as we know it) news.

Yup if you know something is happening you can usually find out what the hashtag is for the event and then just follow along. Election results are awesome on twitter as you get feeds in from all the party headquarters and the news media.

Since becoming the largest shareholder of Twitter, Elon Musk has mused about giving anyone who wants a blue check mark, a blue check mark, dropping the w from the brand’s name, and turning the mostly vacant (workers are working from home) Twitter HQ in SFO into a homeless shelter. He also wants to add an edit button.

I think he wants Twitter Blue subs to pay $2/mo. Which lots would probably agree to.

It’s a genius idea. It’s a vanity thing, so why not make them pay.

Vanity, of course, swings both ways, as a definition. So the blue check mark is vanity, and vanity drives the check mark pursuers.

I don't believe there is anything in popular culture today that I care less about than Twitter.

Hard to tell how much of this is about trashing a company that he feels has wronged him, vs brilliant marketing, vs Elon just doing what he does.

He genuinely likes Twitter.

He wants it to be better.

He’s the 8th most followed on the platform, and the only one in the top 15 that’s not a politician or an entertainer.

Elon Musk is no longer going to join Twitter’s board, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal has announced in a message to the company. Agrawal last week confirmed that Musk would be appointed to the board following his purchase of 9.2 percent of the company’s shares, but now says that Musk has decided against taking up the seat.

https://www.theverge...board-announced

“We announced on Tuesday that Elon would be appointed to the Board contingent on a background check and formal acceptance,” Agrawal writes. “Elon’s appointment to the board was to become officially effective 4/9, but Elon shared that same morning that he will no longer be joining the board. I believe this is for the best. We have and will always value input from our shareholders whether they are on our Board or not. Elon is our biggest shareholder and we will remain open to his input.”

He certainly is an entertainer in my books. He's provided more entertainment in many different ways than most actors and singers have, and for more people too :).

Aha! I knew something was up when he stepped away after being told he’d only be able to acquire 14.2% of shares as a board member.

Good ol’ fake news media to the rescue. He’s in “legal trouble” because some former shareholders are miffed.

“Elon Musk is in legal trouble. The Tesla founder is being sued by former Twitter shareholders who say he waited too long to disclose that he’d bought a 9.2% stake in the social media network” - https://reut.rs/3uFlk3e

So what happens now?  The board will make a recommendation of course, but then shareholders will vote, right?

Institutional investors purchased a net $20.5 million shares of TWTR during the quarter ended June 2019 and now own 77.97% of the total shares outstanding. This majority interest is a greater percentage than is typical for companies in the Internet Software/Services industry and highlights that the smart money sees this stock as an important holding.
