It's actually called The Bird of Paradise - not Birds of Paradise.

That's it? No commentary?

I could comment as to the general and specific scumbaggery in which the family behind the BOP mires itself; but as the owner of a competing establishment (de jure as opposed to de facto competition, to be clear), it's not appropriate for me to do so.

^Well, I'm glad you didn't stoop to doing that.

Besides the craigslist statement re-posted by History Buff above and which at the time could have been seen as reprisal by an angry employee:

Do NOT apply in this company coz there ****ing boss is a ********. He is requiring us tp work, paying and issuing a cheque with no funds. So very embarassing. That ****ing ******** boss with no balls!!!! He terminate all his employee coz he doesnt want them to pay. Owing them such a huge amount of money!

...the sudden Groupon offer followed by a 'spring cleaning' closure cemented the fact things were amiss.

The place has a great deal of potential but it needs a major overhaul and interior redesign.

The bar entrance complete with regulars doesn't give a good first impression that this is a nice place to have dinner.

If you notice because of the slope there, the pub is above that Alf Becker building next door:

What if the Alf Becker building was turned into a brewery, the wall on the north side was taken down & the pub were extended to fill the gap between the two buildings, like this:

Then there could be tables on a big balcony overlooking the brewery operations. Most brewpubs seem to keep the two things separate, I don't know if it's for workers comp or legal reasons or if the pub guests would just rather not see (or smell) that sort of thing. I think it would be pretty cool if it were allowed anyway. That would be a ginormous brewpub if it could work.

Mrs. Sparky and I went into the "Moon under Water" brew pub a while ago for something to eat and we couldn't breathe due to the fermentation going on at the time and had to leave. Perhaps that is a factor.

I've been there when they were brewing too but I guess I've just gotten used to that. They also aren't going all day every day. Maybe it's just a ventilation thing.
