As per sd.wright's post in the retail thread:

Update on the Canadian Tire on Douglas move.

Seems part of the Wilson's land sale is actually a land swap. The deal seems to be that Country Grocer wants out of the hotel business they own the Super 8 and the land), and with Canadian Tire wanting a larger store, a partial land swap is in the works. Canadian Tire will get the Super 8 building and lands as well as buy the old Wilson Transport Depot, and Country Grocer will get the Canadian Tire land and building renovated for a new Country Grocer location.

Country Grocer sent us a message via Twitter that implies there is no plan for their store to open there:

Although we would to open another store in Victoria, this information is not true.

Are we dealing with information that an employee at CG would simply not be aware of? Seems like what Sd wrote is a little too elaborate to be unsubstantiated. Sd, can you reveal more information about your source?

Ran into a buddy that does some contract work for Canadian Tire, and as well is friendly with the owners of that location. I asked him about the rumour that I had heard about I had heard (on here). He was able to confirm on going negotiations, and I have no reason to believe it to be hear say on his behalf, but actual information.

As well I know that the negotiations have been going on for close to, to just over a year from his information. We have information on here that Canadian Tire has purchased the Wilson's Depot land, and my information screams to something in the works on Canadian Tires end.

How long was it Executive House tried to deny the information out there about them becoming a Hilton?

However I see this as a complex deal and something that will not be happening tomorrow, but negotiations are ongoing.

These sorts of negotiations are complex and many years in the making, that is for certain.

So its not really proposed yet (before a council), its not really rumoured (to much available information), maybe change the thread title to in development or negotiation?

As far as our nomenclature goes it is a proposal whether or not a formal application is in City Hall. It just keeps things more organized than having a variety of status' :)

I think this stretch of Douglas has the potential to be transformed into something rather decent if they go with a more urban "big box" format.

Agreed... with something on upper floors above the retail, or even multiple floors of retail.
