I would like to see this for Victoria, but not going to happen. The fine people of James Bay are not going to be to fond of 16 or 20 cement pillars running down Montreal or Oswego Street now are they? I am still loving "Holden West's"    slingshot idea, a sort of Monty Python approach to tourism...

This idea is crazy. But I'd suggest something more like this one: http://gondolaprojec...cable-transit/

Now that is more like it and if they could pick a route that would give tourists a cool ride that ends with turning the bend and be presented with a good view of the inner harbour that would be spot on!

How about instead it goes along the waterfront then turns and goes up Douglas along Beacon Hill Park before dropping into downtown? Much more scenic and could include a stop/station on the edge of the park.

That's how my proposed tram goes, there is a ton of right-of way area for my tram along Dallas and along the edge of the park.  The terminus is at Belleville and Government.  I wonder how many people come into town as a tourist and don't even know about Beacon Hill Park?  Some might not, as it is not advertised commercially anywhere but maybe on tourist maps.  The city does not even run a website or social media page for the park.  So my tram takes people there, and along Dallas Road too.

My tram goes down Menzies and stops at Simcoe so people in James Bay can use it.  And then James Bay has to allow a lot more density along the route.

The stop at Beacon Hill could be co-located with the brand new Casino / Show lounge that will replace the putting green. ( Sorry isn't this thread about ideas that will never see the light of day?)

But I would have it go right through the park with a meandering route up to the flag pole, through the petting zoo, around the lake and over the stone bridge. And then I would ban cars in the park all together and people would have to take the tram in.

My tram is only a go with the money we make selling some real estate at the southwest corner of the park for some commercial and retail and housing, my tram runs right through it, has a lovely stop right there near Mile Zero for ice cream and coffee, even a beer at the brew-pub.  You see, my tram is self-financing, for the construction anyway.

Screw the Friends of the Park, bring on your charter challenge.

And...you could stop the tram at the flagpole pub and recreate the giant bonfire beacon each night during tourist season.

Hey has anyone heard about the plans to run a gondola from Ogden Point to the Inner Harbour? They have an open house on December 11 and will be appearing before the James Bay Neighbourhood Association meeting that evening. http://www.victoriaskyride.com/

A week later, MSM is now on the story.

Actually it is a simple matter to renounce the trust. No charter challenge needed, just some cojones to stand up to the no-fun-NIMBYs who believe Beacon Hill Park is their personal backyard.

IF it moved a bit faster then it should really go from 'Lack Of Capital City Center' in Colwood over Esquimalt harbour and into down town.

Two possible routes have been proposed, with a terminal at each end.

One would leave from the south side of Ogden Point and run along Montreal Street to near the Inn at Laurel Point, where passengers could then walk downtown. That route would be 971 metres long, with 46 cabins and 14 towers.

The other route would also leave from the south side of Ogden Point, go along Dallas Road and then up Oswego Street to the Belleville Street terminal. It would be 1,436 metres long, with 20 towers and 76 cabins.

Show us the views from above the trees.  Gondolas will have to be either higher than the trees or replace the trees.  I don't see this doing much good for the quality of life for the residents.  The pictures all show thes are residential streets

This "proposal" is an amusing exercise in "what if", but if anyone actually believes the notoriously NIMBY residents of James Bay would allow this, then I have a slightly used blue bridge to sell them.

I would love this to happen, but I wouldn't want this on my street. Imagine how much privacy would be compromised.

The last thing I'd want to see in my boxers with my morning coffee is some tourist taking picture of me scratching my balls from the sky above.

Anyone got a drone that can get those photos?
