Plans are up on the Dev Tracker now. Turns out this is not related to Phillips Brewing despite Matt being the applicant/proponent, but is a proposed relocation of Club Kwench, an established co-working space on Fort Street. Mods, feel free to break this off as a new topic, maybe in the Heritage section?

It was the centrepiece of their development variance permit application for the new tasting room. If I remember correctly, Pam went on at length praising the new landmark sign!

From the Citified article: "Heritage advocate councillor Madoff focused on the sign which she believed would become a local landmark and encouraged the proponent to consider additional neon elements." (my emphasis)

"Phillips Brewing is excited to announce that after a 21-year history of sole ownership, Phillips is moving towards being a broadly owned, employee-centric company. Supported by an investment from BC based Yellow Point Partners, all employees are being given the chance to be owners as well as brewers, bottlers, and beer evangelists. Dedicated employees who have been with the company for 3 years will be eligible to become owners. As founder, Matt Phillips will still be active in the brewery with the goal that employees will own a substantial and growing stake in the brewery over the next few years.

I don't drink beer and Phillips craft sodas are outside of my budget, so how they structure their business is none of mine!

Phillips said he is unable to speak specifically to how much ownership he plans to retain and how much buy-in will cost for employees, but he said he has no plans to retire from the company any time soon and will remain active in it.
Now, he is under no obligation to divulge that information. But I assume he has it.

The company has 105 employees and Matt Phillips said just over 50 per cent of them qualify to buy into the firm. At this point any employee who has been with the company for three years qualifies.
Phillips said he will keep a large position in the company and remain involved, though as more employees qualify he hopes more will buy in.
He said the new ownership structure is not an exit strategy for himself.
