^ you can call now if you want. it has to move every 48 or 72 hours or something, there is a law. they will stick a sticker on the window and windshield telling the owner it has to move.

Can you please point to where in the Streets and Traffic Bylaw it prescribes a parking time limit in unregulated parking zones?  I've made it easy by linking the bylaw for you.

Abandoned vehicles and things

68   (1)A person must not abandon a vehicle or other thing on a highway.

(2)If the minister believes that a vehicle or other thing has been abandoned on a provincial public highway, the minister may furnish a notice to the owner or, if known, to any other person who is responsible for abandoning the vehicle or thing on the provincial public highway.

(3)A notice under subsection (2) must

(a)require the person to whom it is furnished to remove the vehicle or thing from the provincial public highway,

(b)specify the time or date before which the vehicle or thing must be removed, and

©indicate that if the removal is not completed by the specified time or date, the minister may effect the removal at the expense of the person to whom the notice was furnished.

(4)The minister may extend the time for removal whether or not a previously specified time limit has expired.

(5)The minister may seize a vehicle or thing that the minister believes has been abandoned on a provincial public highway if

(a)the vehicle or thing is the subject of a notice under subsection (2) and the notice has not been complied with in the time specified, or

(b)the minister believes that the vehicle or thing has been abandoned for more than 72 hours.

vancouver process:

The city tags or tickets suspected abandoned autos, then waits about 48 hours. About half of all tagged cars are moved by their owners, but the rest are towed away by Busters, which then has to check whether they’re stolen, and send double-registered letters to owners telling them where they can pick up their property.

Of those impounded, on average 18 owners a month came to the abandoned vehicle yard to retrieve their property. Far more vehicles — 28 per month — were not claimed and the city had to send them for scrap, for which the city received an average of $187 each.

the hole in the ground is on city property the boulevard beside a huge old tree, it's most likely opened up due to a pipe/roots issue, a number of years ago they had a hole on the other side which had plywood over it for years, until they did another repair job around said tree and had to replace part of the sidewalk, so they chucked the left over cement from the sidewalk into the first hole (mind you they didn't clean out the hole first so there was debris cemented into it sticking up and some flagging) and this would be the second hole..

Have you contacted public works and council? I wrote Chris Coleman every 2 weeks about the collapsed lane at Johnson at Cook for 3 months and annoyed him until it got fixed

so to summarize the law says that if it has no insurance it'll get towed right away.  if it looks abandoned but it's insured:

now if you want to address a place to live, there is currently a mini van that has been on our street and has not moved for well over 6 months, there is even grass and weeds growing in the debris around the wheels near the curb

the cops will give it a few days.

I broke a drive axle on my van once and three days later got to it to move it and it had the tow warning on it.

I'm surprised at this. Last year we had a little car with Alberta plates parked out front for at least six months but we actually liked it there as it didn't block our sight lines and it wasn't parked on top of the storm drain. It only got towed when they cleared the street for a marathon.

i know there are cars parked on our street that do not move every 48-72hrs, years and years ago i called a car in that was still insured but sat there for months (the interior lining was all falling down) and i was told since the car is insured and the owner lives within the area they could not tow it away (but this was ages ago)

next time i walk past it i'll snap a picture and call it in (need made/colour license plate number) insurance is due to expire any day now if i remember right

Who would have thought a thread about someone so off-putting could get so off-topic?

I don't believe that a Provincial Public Highway as defined in Provincial law is the same as a local arterial street, secondary arterial street, collector street, secondary arterial street, or downtown street as defined in City of Victoria bylaws. (linked above).

A Provincial Public Highway is defined in Division 5, Section 35 of the Community Charter ( http://www.bclaws.ca...26_03#section35 )

  • I believe that you can leave a car parked on any of the unposted local streets noted in the COV bylaws for longer than 72 hours.
  • I believe that you can't leave a car parked anywhere on a Provincial Public Highway for longer than 72 hours.

(I also could be totally wrong in my interpretation)

I am the last person to come to Ben Isitt's defense, but I am pretty sure he hasn't yet taken full control of municipal and provincial street and highway bylaws.

Usually City-related stuff, like mentioning upcoming engagement sessions or City-sponsored surveys. Granted I've only seen a very limited number of them.

That's irrelevant. If they originate from Ben Isitt, I don't want to see them.
