Royal Victoria Marathon

Most challenges are meaningless anyways. I didn't realize that she was a 10k and half-marathon runner though. I wonder where she gets the time to train. Tried looking up her results online to see how fast she is but I couldn't find anything.

she says in the article her pb is 52 minutes.

I almost didn't want to share this, but check the results above: historical race data, searchable even by participant.  Her PB is actually 47:45 in 2010.

Thanks Bob. My search had come up blank so this is helpful. 47 minutes is pretty quick.

Registration is going well, she said, and the effort to increase participation from 2018’s 8,700 is yielding results.

“We’re still aiming for 10,000, for sure,” she said. “That’s our goal and we’re going to be pretty close to it.

“We’re definitely higher than our numbers were in the last couple of years, so we’re excited about that.”

Fougner said she’s hoping for a run of good weather leading up to the big day, to gather more registrations in the final stretch.

As always, team entries are a big part of the event and will account for more than 50 per cent of the final tally of participants.

Fougner said there are about 210 official teams of 10 or more, along with many smaller group entries. “A lot of people put a team of five in or something.”

Eliud Kipchoge makes history in Vienna by running 42km marathon in under 2 hours

 

Eliud Kipchoge today made history by finishing his INEOS159 challenge in under two hours. He cut the tape in 1:59:40.

 

The race started at 9:15am Kenyan time, Saturday morning in Vienna, Austria. Kipchoge skipped the 2019 World Athletics Championships and Berlin Marathon where he set the World record to train for today’s event.

 

This makes him the most successful long distance athlete of all time, making him the first man in the history of the sport to complete the 42km race in under two-hours.

 

He won the Olympic marathon in 2016 and is the current marathon world record holder with a time of 2:01:39 hours.

a few can handle a sunday morning closure from time to time.  it's only a tiny percentage of roads shut down.

it's not really in the "business area" for much into the morning.  it brings hundreds of overnight visitors each year that enter the business area before and after the race and spend money.

Kind of a cool story; this guy is my next door neighbor and I can tell you he wasn't moving around too much the day after the marathon, after doing it in about 6 hours in full military uniform, including CAF-issued boots - which is incredible in itself - not to mention the 30 pounds of combat gear that was draped over his back. Apparently it takes about 6 months for Guinness to verify whether a feat is a world record. Seems he made it -

Well if I was running in it, the oxygen tank would come in handy after about 1/4 mile.

tc10k is in april.  does that make sense to go ahead?  april 26th.

vancouver's sun run has been cancelled.

Cathy Noel said her children asked if they are finally getting turkey dinner for Thanksgiving this year. They will be.

Noel is the general manager and race director of the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon, which announced Wednesday that the 41st running scheduled for Oct. 11 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

someone should step up and start a race with a timed start rather than mass start.  it'll need to be held somewhere more rural since parts of the course will have to be closed for 12 or 14 hours.  but it can be done.
