Can someone confirm that the Douglas Stewart who runs Utopia is the same Douglas Stewart running for council on a white supremacist platform? If so, I think I'll be boycotting the store and encouraging everyone I know to do the same.

Yeah, same guy. I met him a while ago. Didn't know about the anti-immigrant thing.  Ew.

Apparently Mr. Stewart and all his ancestors sprang from the ground beneath Victoria, somewhere around the dawn of time, since none could ever have immigrated from elsewhere to here.

Where is the evidence of a white supremacist platform?

I just don't think that advocating for reduced immigration is exclusive to white supremacists.

"Sorry to break it to you folks...the biggest issue in this election is neither the bridge nor the sewer - it’s the immigration system!
Having saturated Toronto and Vancouver with immigrants, and refusing to admit that far too many newcomers are allowed into the country each year, the government is now intent on dumping the surplus in smaller cities such as Victoria. It should be a scandal, except for the fact that this city doesn’t have a single journalist with the guts to investigate the matter."

Certainly a crackpot... How exactly does the goverment dump surplus immigrants into specific cities?

Whatever. It's obvious by looking at the T-shirts on his site that he's against the dark-skinned immigrants.

Or, apparently, even not-so-dark skinned immigrants. Nice that his sentiments have been exposed before November 15.

Wow. That does not strike me as a smart business decision.

I will never, ever shop at Utopia again and regret having given Douglas Stewart money in the past.

Thanks Jared for bringing this up.

Not only does this guy appear to be a terrible human being, he's running on immigration issues (a mostly federal issue) in a municipal election.

Great find Jared. I really hope the multiculturalism of Bastion Square convinces him to move his business outside of our otherwise welcoming city.

Weird that the one-topic fringe candidates, this guy and the clown are both flogging issues that aren't even municipal.

Well so are the ones who are flogging a safe injection site that is a Federal issue too because its the Feds who say yay or nay not small local local Governments

^Er, no, the Feds listen to the Province which bases it on the will of the community. If the Libs were in power it would be a slam dunk. Complex decisions aren't made in a vacuum.

Immigration levels are a legit topic. But ethnic slurs, now way.

Apparently all but one of the existing council support a safe injection site since the application is already in... This is not an action to be left up to the feds.

The Feds are also clear that the local community must support it (which they defined so widely as to guarantee that they can say no), so this is very much a council decision. Plus it is a matter of policing, also clearly a council matter.
