Sure.  Bring the parking back to the center by about 10 feet and put a walkway in where the cars are in right now. 

Face it, people want to sit in their cars with the headlights pointing in the general direction of the water so they can see the waves crash on the rocks.  Dallas from St. Charles to Ogden Pt. is a "people place".  So what if a small portion of it has some cars parked up.

It was more of an attraction when they still had the military bunkers on the point, so perhaps we should restore the era of our history.

"During World War I, troops stationed at the ‘Willows” Fairground marched to Clover Point to practice shooting from the ranges to the butts on the point. H.Q. building was located just east of Linden Ave. and the whole area was fenced and topped with barbed wire. This did not last long and there were various openings made in the fence for residents to get to the beach." (Park Office files, April 28, 1967)

 

Warren did not mention the 800 military personnel camped in Beacon Hill Park in 1916-1917. They lived in wooden barracks and tents in the north end of the Park. Those soldiers undoubtedly marched to the Clover Point Rifle Range for target practice as well.

So it looks as if Clover Point will be closed to cars soon.

At Clover Point, a public plaza accessible to pedestrians and cyclists will replace the public parking lot. It will include washrooms, street furniture, a drinking fountain and bicycle racks.

I believe it is only the upper parking lot near Dallas Road that will be sacrificed for the upgraded pumping station.

I think the "cul-de-sac" area will remain the same.

Washrooms and bike racks.  Wow.  How exciting.  This is all they could come up with to replace parking?  Pathetic.

This war on the car needs to stop.

Sounds awesome to me! I have always been irritated by the loop. Sat in my car a few times to watch the see which is nice I admit, but more often have been irritated that all that space is disrupted by cars. makes kite flying less nice especially with kids. playing inside a traffic median isn't good feng shui.... This is one waterfront parking lot that should be nuked.

Perhaps nuke the atrocious parking lots below Wharf Street first. For many people, especially older folks, the only way they can enjoy the view at Clover Point is from their vehicle. It's rather mean to tell people if you cannot walk or bike out to this location from now on you're out of luck.   

I live in the area and have been following this.  As far as I know the main car loop will stay the same or very close to the same. The small upper parking lot will be lost but be replaced by a nice little plaza.

Upgraded odour control is promised. There was some talk about re-aligning some of the trails in the park as some don't make sense where they begin and end.  There is potential for a bathroom although some residents are opposed as they think it will increase the beach overnighting population. And of course there is the proposed bike lane from Clover to Ogden which will be an amazing amenity if it gets built (I think even some folks that hate downtown bike lanes will accept that an off street bike route along here is a boon for tourists and locals.)

As a near neighbour to this project I am cautiously optimistic.
