Do the Snowbirds do anything different from year to year? I mean, is their gig the same it's always been with fly-bys, loop de loops and the Canadian flag thingy?

I don't believe it changes much.

Ha ha, I like how they create the smoke.  They just spray a mist of diesel fuel from tanks, into their exhaust, and that makes it white.

So ...if climate change is due to man's activities, I'm going to assume that anyone who believes in reducing carbon emissions will boycott this event, right?

Right?

If it makes you feel better, I won't be there.

Good. Sticking to your guns. I can appreciate and respect that.

Now what about the rest of you?

Well, I'm off the hook, since I'm a denier.

I'll bite.  It's going to get a couple thousand cars off the road for a few hours so it's a net win if you want to keep score.

No way. Without this event, most of these people would probably stay home, not taking their cars out in the first place.

Maybe, but anyone who tries to drive tonight is going to be in for a bad time.  Hopefully the big no-go zone will deter most people from trying it.

Oh, don't count on it, I predict a fairly big news item tomorrow will be the gridlock going in.  Exiting will be easy.

Carbon Emissions
Fuel statistics on the Snowbirds suggests that each plane burns an estimated 1000 liters of fuel per hour. If each liter produces 3.1kg of CO2 then each plane creates 3.1 tons of CO2 per hour. If there are 9 planes, each producing 3.1 tons of CO2 per hour, the result is an estimated 27.9 tons of CO2 in just one hour.

The Snowbirds have more than 65 scheduled appearances in 2008. If each performance is only one hour in duration (excluding practice and flying to and from the event), 65 performances at an estimated 27.9 tons of CO2 per hour = 1,813.5 tons of CO2 generated in 2008 alone.

So that explains why there's a temperature and sea level rise with every Snowbirds performance.

For those with the equipment and inclination to monitor their radio comms, frequencies used are 272.10000 MHz, 116.00000 MHz and 333.30000 MHz.

I think it is safe to say that all of the forest fires in BC this year have already generated 600 million tons* of CO2 into the atmosphere this year, so what the Snowbirds generate is just a "snowflake in a snowman" in comparison.

All the more reason to call off the show, no?

Can hear the air show starting wonder if it will scare the cougar out of the woods in Uplands Park?

Going to head out to try and get a better view.

Have seen a couple of overhead flybys from my place.
