The Liberal government won’t reveal how much taxpayers spent on sending 276 delegates and members of the media to Glasgow, Scotland.

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, among those who attended include former environment minister Catherine McKenna who travelled to the event as a VIP. The Department of Environment refused to say if McKenna’s expenses were covered by taxpayers.

“Canada has taken steps to ensure diverse perspectives are reflected in international forums,” department spokesperson Samantha Bayard told Blocklock’s Reporter.

McKenna is not listed on the official delegate list according to the outlet, however, she was spotted attending meetings at COP26.

In Morocco, 2,500 hours of sunlight bake the Saharan sands every year, and every day, the wind blows.

A British company now wants to build a solar wind farm there to harness that power for use in the UK.

"You can generate three times more energy per square metre in Morocco than you could ever do in the UK," Sir Dave Lewis, chair of the XLinks project, explained.

Solar panels would generate the power in Morocco. It would then travel via four cables underwater - each cable would be nearly 4,000km long - passing Spain, Portugal, and France, before reaching the National Grid in Devon.

It would provide 8% of the UK's energy - that's for seven million homes.

It's going to take a lot of taxpayer money just to buy that many "carbon credits".  :whyme:

Almost 200 nations at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow accepted a contentious climate compromise Saturday aimed at keeping alive a key target to limit global warming, but it contained a last-minute change that some officials called a watering down of crucial language about coal.

Several countries, including small island states, said they were deeply disappointed by the change to "phase down," rather than "phase out" coal power, the single biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions.

How about a more sensible goal: net-zero Rex Murphy articles by end of 2021.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is standing by his accusation that environmentalist David Suzuki was inciting violence with his comments at a climate change protest over the weekend.

The premier first made the claim in a tweet that linked to a National Post article, which quoted Suzuki as saying: "There are going to be pipelines blown up if our leaders don't pay attention to what's going on."

Suzuki made the comments amid a "Funeral for the Future" protest in Victoria on Saturday, organized by the environmental group Extinction Rebellion.

The retreat of glaciers in the Pacific mountains of British Columbia and Alaska could produce thousands of kilometres of potential new salmon habitat, a study led by researchers at Simon Fraser University shows.

The study published Tuesday inNature Communications projects that more than 6,000 kilometres of new streams could be accessible to salmon by 2100,and just under one-third of that could be suitable for spawning.

Of the total kilometres of new streams that could be gained with "complete deglaciation," the study projects 23 per cent would be created by 2050.

The CRD released its greenhouse gas inventory for 2020 – with an acknowledgment of the COVID-19 caveat – earlier this month.

The region emitted 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 that year, which represented a 9.8-per-cent reduction from 2007 levels and a five-per-cent drop from 2018. That swift two-year cut was the result of a sudden dropoff in transportation emissions early in the pandemic, an inventory analysis said. Regardless, the CRD came far short of its goal to lower emissions by 33 per cent below 2007 levels by 2020.

Yup, they're going to go after natural gas in your homes now.

FYI, My parents put in a new heat pump in their 2,000ft rancher, that they remodeled this year. They have propane gas fireplaces as well as propane HW on demand. Their hydro bill for Dec 10-Feb10 was $900. The house needed the supplement of the gas fires for the 2 weeks over Christmas.

Not thinking I'm sold on heat pumps.

Indeed they are.

And don’t forget that they want you to plug your car into your hydro meter as well. Just wait until every charge-up also includes a $50 road tax levy, in addition to your level 2 hydro rate charge.

While a heat pump might be somewhat efficient, you have to factor in the purchase price and inevitable maintenance and replacement costs too.

I can buy a lot of $20 electric baseboard heaters for the cost of a heat pump.

The money I save I invest in Doge. And I’m way ahead.

Also, some heat pumps end up being energy hogs, and some homes don’t adapt well to pumps and draw huge sums of energy to maintain an ambient temperature.

The only relatively economical ways of heating a home are gas and wood stove. Hydro is crazy expensive once you slip into tier two, which is virtually a given for most homes. In our case, we slide just under the tier 2 threshold with hydro hot water, stove and washer/dryer. If it wasn’t for our wood stove we’d be paying even higher rates than rjag’s parents are.

I’d be running $1400 bills in the winter, instead I burn $200 worth of wood. The hot tub is a beast in the winter though, couple bucks a day.

I use my hot tub water for making hot drinks like tea and coffee.  So it's already half way warmed when it gets to the kettle.  So my hot tub is saving me money on kettle electricity bills.
