i think it's just easy to forget the big wharf lot(s). entry is just after you have committed to the turn onto fort.  but yes after 4pm and all weekend there is lots of space.

Those lots frankly never occurred to me, or for that matter to any of the other 3 drivers in the truck at the time; nor apparently to the dozens of other cars in the immediate area vainly jostling for an street spot. As for the small surface lot off Fort it was full.

Library parkade has loads of space on a Saturday night and is quite well patrolled. But I know the feeling about autopilot on Fort...Its amazing how much I avoid Fort these days now that its like a goat track

Other good spot if you can get it, is the small block on Courtney between Wharf and Government, after 6pm the commercial zones are available

Now_that I didn't know; thanks for that Rich. I would never have guessed.

some people read the commercial parking signs and just become confused and thus avoid them out of caution. so are often vacant even when available to general cars.

What about the parkade under Harbour Square/Court?

/\....Didn't know about that one honestly; it does seem after you get married parking downtown, at night, on a weekend, is not something you tend to do very often, heh.

Raising kids/picking up kids/dropping off kids/homework/home renovations/gardening/grocery shopping/looking after the family vehicles/taking pets to the vet and 101 other domestic things generally mean if you're very lucky you get to go out, and park, at night, on a weekend - maybe - about once a year. Last time I did it was last September so I seem to be batting for average here.... :)

Everytime I go downtown these days is after 4 PM and I can pretty much always find a spot in one of the parkades. Did you check the parkades, as it sounds more like you were looking for street parking...

The Courtney/Wharf commercial spots are overtaken by the Customs House construction presently.

Pamela Anderson worked at the Fort Street restaurant, first as a hostess, then as a server in its lounge. (“I used to wear prom dresses and sit behind the podium,” she once told the TC’s Michael D. Reid.) Keg lore says the waiters competed for Anderson’s attention, but she preferred to hang out with the cooks, leaving her signature among those on the wall of an old boiler room where chefs would retreat for a smoke. A few years later, she was arguably the best-known Canadian in the world.

Never worked there myself but the article is correct re: UVic students. When I attended from '80-5 it seemed like half the campus worked at the d/t location anytime we went there, which was a lot in those days. Couldn't begin to count the number of 'comp-ed' drinks and appy's that were eased our way over the years. Was a great jumping off spot too from dinner to the nite clubs.

My daughter took me to the Quadra outlet last weekend for Father's Day (mom is currently out of town). One thing about the Keg the food is consistent, you know exactly what you're going to get and although I only occasionally eat red meat these days I did notice on the menu their prices for various cuts of steak, prime rib etc. were, surprisingly, quite reasonable IMO, considering the rarefied cost of everything else including especially order/take out food prices which have soared out of sight.....

I also visited last week. 14oz prime rib was about $40something. Reasonable indeed.

I've never ever had a bad meal there. If they mess your steak up, they'll do a new one too. Never had to get that though. And those twice baked taters are awesome.

Ditto. I've laid off red meat/beef significantly in the last few years, my current Keg fav is the blackened chicken, garlic mashed potato's and veg of the day (usually grilled peppers). Super tasty, delicious and very reasonably priced - I believe it goes for $27. Since I rarely drink and certainly not when driving the kidlin' around, with the appy I think dinner was under $40. Very reasonable.
