Even if he did target recent immigrants why is that wrong exactly?

That's some statement.

Huh? where did he say that?

Saying that "they come here" to the "land of milk and honey". Immigrants. There's no plausible alternative interpretation.

Look, is there any evidence new Canadians wear poppies more or less than established Canadians? Then why are they of all groups being singled out? I've watched Cherry since he had his old TV series with Blue. His views on hot button topics are well-trodden ground.

I hate the weaponization of the poppy. I think it's great that we all wear them but I won't give you the stink eye if you don't because you might have your own personal reason not to. It's like those US flag lapel pins that sprang up on politicians suits post 9/11. Or the AIDS ribbons in the '80s. People that didn't have them were practically scorned--"What's the matter with you?"

Yes but Rob you quoted him saying “"sees immigrants"”

His exact words were "...you people that come here--you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey".

We use phrases like Lotus Land and God's country to describe the place we are in. The most common and original use of flowing with milk and honey refers to another land--a place that is not this place.

God was using it like a too-good-to-be-true travel poster. Deliberate hyperbole. It's interesting that the Hebrew verb for flowing in that context isn't the same one used for things like a flowing river--it's the one more commonly used in the Torah to describe gushing from the genitals. God's really selling this place to the Israelites--It doesn't just have milk and honey my friend, I mean it's really coming with it.

The whole "you people" bit to describe immigrants is offensive.

^Cherry's net for "you people" is pretty wide. Remember he criticized that Olympic flag-bearer because he was Francophone.

Today I was having coffee at A&W on Douglas .One of the staff at 11,11 turned off the music got up asked for people’s attention and recited “In Flanders Fields “.First off some people kept talking .The staff member was steadfast in her mission her voice quivering just a little .Soon they heard her and stopped all except two . The two left talking after a few lines were shushed by me .Thanks to the employee for getting the courage to stand up in the middle of the restaurant and read the poem . Thanks also for those who serve and have served .

Cherry has some pretty terrible remarks in the past. How about Russians are quitters and drug addicts, or Finish names sound like dog food, or referring to the 1990s genocide in the Balkans as "SLOBovia attacking SLIMEa"

Why? They are just people like anyone else. What makes them above reproach? It seems like a white knight, coddling kind of racism of low expectations to say we can never have a critical opinion of any kind of immigrant behavior

Toronto Sun Interview with Cherry after being fired.

"Cherry added: “I know what I said and I meant it. Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers.”

Good for him for not giving in to the faux outrage bullies. The general public is with Cherry.

I repeat, how is he able to spot immigrants on the street if not by colour?

I think Don is one of the most colourful people I know of.

Don't we have home grown coloured people?

Fifth poppy lost today. Next year I need some sort of a plan. I’m sitting on a bus right now where most everyone has a poppy on and I (again) feel like a dolt.

Push the pin through your shirt/jacket/lapel and back out again, then push it through the edge of the red.  It'll lock it in place, and help prevent you from stabbing yourself repeatedly.

^ Or put a Canada pin or other appropriate pin inside the poppy and connect to a more solid backing. I know the Legion doesn't really like this, but it sure keeps your poppy on your clothing.

Don't be so sure.

^The Legion has a little black plastic centre that does the same thing and doesn't change the appearance of the poppy.

I've tried every which way to secure my poppies without using another backing pin and all have failed. Next year I'll have to come up with a proper backing to secure them as no matter what weave, bends or angles I used they all failed. One poppy even ripped and fell off, leaving the pin in my sweater. Thank you, poppy.
