"Safety and security" seems like a very weak excuse.

 

(Via the National Post)...the Chrismans were refunded their bus fare and pre-paid admission tickets and provided a taxi back to downtown Victoria.

Now the couple will be on CFAX to talk about their experience. Via Skype, not rotary phone.

This story has a bit of irony though.  The bee and flower not getting in, that's not news.

If it was a burka it would be a much larger story, where there is a legitimate Safety and Security issues by being denied the ability to identify a person by their facial features especially if you're walking into a major tourist attraction, bank, convenience store, etc. I'm guessing if somebody had/has a burka on they would have been gone right through.

The main point to take from this interview on CFAX is that a rotary phone is more reliable than Skype.

Hmmm, see, I get all my history strictly from Downton Abbey.  They did not get a phone until near the end of the first season.  Or later maybe.  

I see they had a wonderful time at Abkhazi Garden, however, and I hope they left some money in the donation box. If they also visited Government House's gardens, they'd get the equivalent of Butchart at a fraction of the price -- and the Abkhazi Tea House is excellent.

I think Government House is under-rated for sure.  I took a girlfriend there about a year ago, she has lived here for a decade, she had no idea it existed.

I sort of recalled there being a phone in "Little House on the Prairie" hence my need to fact-check the birth of this device.

For such an itsy-bitsy town it's amazing how so many Victorians don't know where anything is. As if they've never bothered to explore their own city. Government House and the art gallery are two of the bigger ones, but I'd also include the Gonzales lookout, Hatley Castle, and the Selkirk waterfront. When you see Hatley Castle in a movie or TV show try pointing it out to people and see if they know what you're talking about. Fisherman's Wharf of all places used to be high up on the list but in recent years a lot more people seem to have discovered it.

Also, try going up on Mt. Tolmie and pointing things out to people. No! Is that really that? It can't be! Etc.

I have lived here for decades and I once knew where every thing was, but Nickel Bros have moved a lota stuff around the corner and over to islands and I can't afford to keep looking for things that have been moved, but I'm trying
