 :D

Yeah, Heelys. The shoes with the wheel in the heel.

hhmmm, after reading all this...I have seen many times these ignored by staff. They must make exceptions for certain venues.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this picture?

The University of Victoria has moved into City Hall and the mayor has changed the name to the Pandora Avenue Bridge. All's well.

Regina is talking about building a new stadium. These are some of the plans proposed. I don't know the seating capacity, but both of these designs have retractable roofs. This would be for their CFL team.

Well to be blunt if Regina get a nice new stadium like this, they still would have far to go to reach what we have in this city architecturally.

$431 million is the estimated cost for that stadium. Chances are Victoria will be leveled by a massive earthquake before they ever build that thing. :P

It would be a great venue but if that $400+ million price tag is correct then I'm tempted to say the entire idea is ridiculous and outrageous. We're talking about the CFL here. We're talking about a Canadian city and the CFL. Even for Toronto such a stadium seems like quite a stretch to me.

If they can really pull it off without unleashing total anarchy in Saskatchewan then all power to them...

Strange, I've always thought Regina would need an upgraded hockey arena before a football stadium. The Brandt Centre and has an equivalent capacity to our SoFMC but was built in 1977. Meanwhile, their current CFL stadium was upgraded recently and has a capacity of 30'000 (compared to our largest football stadium of, uh, 4'000?).

I remember when the new arena was proposed, part of the justification was that since we didn't have a decent sized arena, most of the big show pass on Victoria. Now that it is built, and has been around for a few years, I get the feeling that while we have had some big shows, Victoria is still getting the pass over. Looking at their schedule of upcoming shows, there is a couple of things but it looks pretty blank. Only three concerts. Is this a failing of SOFA management? I know the Salmon Kings are the main tennant, and I have been to a number of games, but there must be a lot of slack time in that schedule.

The issue is that it is too small.

I did it myself, and then I had to pay

I was charged over $11 per seat as a “convenience fee” on an online order I just purchased for an event at The Save on Foods Memorial Centre.

I’m sure they meant to pay me this fee, not charge me.

I went online, found the event, searched the seating plan, selected my seats, ordered the tickets, paid for the tickets.

An automated e-mail was sent to me so I was able to print the tickets. Who did the most work here? Why was I the one to pay a “convenience fee?”

If you pay in person do you still pay this fee? I hate oxymoronic euphimisms like "convenience fee".

There is a VERY small savings if you pay in person at the box office. Which of course seems odd, since that is the only transaction that requires a direct human interface. I think you save $1 per ticket, or $1 per order (of several tickets to the same event), I forget.

I called the box office one day and asked them to dissect a concert ticket, give me all the fees individually. They could not, but they had a well-rehearsed answer they were well-prepared to read off a script.

I don't really have an issue with all the fees, as long as when you are ready to make the purchase, you know the bottom line, just like an airline ticket.

I'm frankly a little surprised other companies don't add fees to their advertised prices. I suppose it is harder for a bricks and mortar retailer that is going to expose its frontline staff to hostile customers moreso than a phone-in centre or website will.

Fortin said the extension would also see RG take over 100 per cent of capital improvement costs for the facility in the 10-year extension period should the extension be granted.

"That's good for the city because in the latter years of operation you need more capital repairs," Fortin said. Currently, RG shares capital costs 50/50 with the city, he said.

Read more: http://www.timescolo...l#ixzz1G3xe9fP4

Operating Risk - Any operating cost overruns will be the responsibility of RG Properties.

Performance Standards - Performance standards will be developed to ensure the facility is well maintained and is meeting basic public expectations.

Staffing - All management and operations will be contracted to RG Properties. Existing regular employees of the Memorial Arena will remain employees of the City of Victoria.

Community Use - Under the operating agreement with RG Properties, the City is guaranteed 2000 hours of facility use for community rentals and programming (1700 hours of ice time/300 hours of dry floor) which represents a net increase of approximately 500 hours over what we currently have. An additional 500 hours of meeting room space will also be available for community use.

Maintenance and Repair - All maintenance and repair of the building will be the responsibility of RG Properties.

Capital Reserve Fund - RG Properties will make escalating annual payments to a capital reserve fund.

http://www.victoria...._ptnrterm.shtml

Isn't maintenance and repairs the same as capital "repairs"? I've never heard of the 50/50 figure for sharing those, but the last item listed on the city website might imply that fund that they must make "escalating annual payments" into is the one matched by the city as required.
