Two thumb's up for The Finest Hour, a true story about a USCG rescue off New England in 1952. Great flick, stars Eric Bana (my wife thinks he's hot, naturally) and Chris Pine best known for playing Capt Kirk in the rebooted Star Trek movie franchise. Very well done and interestingly it was shot in 3D. Well worth a couple of hours....

....conversely in the category of "well that sucked!" steer clear and stay well away from the new Tom Hank's flick The Circle. To call it a dog would frankly be an insult to dogs. It especially featured the absolute worst, weakest and most limp ending to a movie. Like, evah.....

The Darkest Hour with Gary Oldman as Churchill is very good and should put him in Oscar contention.

Two thumbs way up for the "Death of Stalin". Brilliantly done, sublime and darkly-humored this is a first rate portrayal/interpretation of the 'back room' scheming and plotting that most likely ensued in the aftermath of his death among Party henchmen, hierarchy and his successors, both presumed and actual. An excellent flick.....

Saw Peter Jackson's They Shall not Grow Old his stunning documentary-style homage to WWI and life at the front from primarily a British soldiering perspective. If you have any interest whatsoever in history, or war history or especially if like me you had a family member who fought in that awful conflict, definitely make the effort to go see it.

They spared no expense to digitally remaster and restore 600 hours of original film and 100 hours of audio interviews with WWI vets, provided by the Imperial War Museum in London, synthesized down to a 2 hour movie. Its been colorized as appropriate, in 3D to boot and there is a bonus 30 minute segment after the movie describing what motivated Jackson's company to make the movie, describing his approach to deciding on a theme and showing in part how they performed some of the computer wizardry to produce this excellent film. Can't recommend it highly enough.
