Electric car charging in condo buildings!

Yes I did, can't stand bikes.  Some guy rolled up to me today on a bike and said, "thank you for driving a Tesla," and I fingered him as I speed off.

I'm honestly perplexed Marko. At times you show great insight and humility, and a few minutes later you write something that will pass off a market segment that happens to align with your value based core client group.

Which makes it even more perplexing since cook street businesses, whether they know it or not, rely heavily on people who walk, bike and talk to each other.

I may be wrong, but Marko's comment was probably 'tongue in cheek'... in response to a well known cycling advocate... nagel.

Hint to all, look at the green bike Nagel referenced....it's not an electric Bike.  He made a joke about me unplugging a NON-ELECTRIC BIKE, I responded with a joke?.......what's with people losing their **** on the internet every two seconds.

As for bragging....I am not going to buy a Porsche Turbo, Audi R8, or any other 100k+ car and post on here.  The Tesla is a very interesting conversation piece as it is a look into the future.  I would have done the exact same thread had I purchased a 45k BMW i3 (which I did test drive before buying the Tesla but just didn't have enough range for my every day use).  

The Model S is a niche car but it represents what's shortly coming to the masses.

I happen to have a lot of different interests in life from discussing propaganda about Canada in Croatian newspapers to filming various air suspension settings on my Tesla.  What is your next accusation going to be? That the only reason I discuss things in another language on YouTube is because I want to brag about my ability to speak fluently in multiple languages......no, I just happen to be interested in Croatian newspaper propaganda and Teslas, among many other things.

Stratas should not be expected to pay hydro costs for EV owners, but they would be wise to think about how to facilitate charger installation. My next car will be an EV, and I would not consider buying in a building where I can't easily put in my own charger.

^I agree. If each parking spot has electric charging capability it should be directly metered to the unit it serves.

Of course a strata (ie. collective) should not pay the electic bill, but  it's also not their prerogative to make the financial decision to facilitate anything that only benefits a few... without penalizing folks that have no interest in electric.  

The developer, when it's more simple (ie. cost effective) to install, should be making it easier for 5, 10 or 15% of parking stalls to be "meter-able" or such,  and market the development as being Ecar friendly etc. etc.   A strata corporation (personally having been involved with 3 to date) has neither the resources, nor the mandate, to make these decisions, when only a few owners are impacted at the expense of the majority.

I am going to argue that even if you don't have an EV a building capable of handling EVs will have much better re-sale going forward.  You would be absolutely shocked right now in the difference in market value between buildings that allow rentals and those that don't.  If you are an owner-occupier the rental bylaw doesn't apply to you, but it sure has a dramatic consequence on re-sale.

Having EV charging stations may benefit all in terms of re-sale is what I am trying to say especially in slow market.  It would suck to be selling your condo and finally have interest from a BMW i3 owner only for him or her to find out she can't charge it....there goes your sale.

100% agree the meters need to be individually metered.  A Tesla sucks a lot of juice.

John Crummy and Chantal Seguin are proud owners of a new Tesla electric car, but there's one problem. 

They don't have a place to recharge it at the Kitsilano condo where they live. Instead, they have to use a public charging station, which is a 10-minute walk from their home.

You mean the same way every car owner has had to refuel their vehicle for the past century? I fail to see why suddenly it's the responsibility of collective property owners to supply the means and the method of refueling someone's personal choice of transportation.

Argue says the province should introduce a so-called "right-to-charge" policy, which exists in Ontario.

 

These regulations prevent strata councils or owners from denying a resident's request to install charging without a legitimate reason.
