As per SpongeG's post in the retail thread, I can confirm that the company is indeed targeting the southern Vancouver Island area for 2017, but no details are available regarding location.

Where might it go?

Mayfair - once expansion is done, lots of room.

Hillside - still has room.

Sidney's new shopping centre.

Langford somewhere.

Hillside makes a lot of sense especially with so many UVic students nearby who likely would be a target demographic. Therefore it will probably go in Langford.

It should arrive just in time for the new Ashley Furniture to close again, that'll open space.  The Ashley business plan counts on them closing every 24-36 months or so.

The Ashley space is probably too big.

They'll likely need about 25,000 square feet.

I am really only familiar with the Nanaimo store, but it doesn't seem particularly large.

They're going to be requiring a much larger space for the Victoria store. The Nanaimo store is their old retail format.

they are going to need a sizable space, one most likely with much available parking(so that crosses out downtown core) they would be an anchor store at any mall they go into if they do decide to link up with a mall and not a stand alone store

hillside would be a good fit, but since Canadian tire moving in there isn't a large empty retail space

mayfair will have the space once they finish the expansion (and it could be built to fit their needs) though mayfair doesn't feel like the right fit to me, they already have 2 large flagship stores (the bay and toys R us)

there is the possibility of uptown but i don't there there is a large enough space available anymore since Micheals moved in

it seems many big box places do set up in the westshore area, so there is a fair possibility it may go out there

if only they were looking a year ago they could have moved into one of the 2 old target spaces but those have both now been filled (by canadian tire and lowes)

i think this will be good for Victoria.. we may never get an ikea but atleast we'll have jysk

I don't think the name jysk will catch on as it sounds like an acronym for an airport.

On the other hand Bed Bath and Beyond is already here selling similar products.

The Target spaces would have been far too large, I think, but the missed opportunity was not getting the Homesense space out by Best Buy in Langford.

Maybe a new space will be built for them. It doesn't take a lot of work to put up what is essentially a warehouse.

They have been successful in Nanaimo for years.

Jysk would be perfect in Tillicum Mall.  Maybe the next time the pet food store goes bankrupt, they can move there.

JYSK has some nice stuff, in fact, that's where my kitchen table and chairs are from. They had two stores in the Ottawa area when we lived out there a few years ago, a nice (and less manic) alternative to IKEA.

Any information on the location? If I'd have to guess I'd say the abandoned Rona building in Cowichan Commons.

The job postings on their website have an address at the Duncan Mall as the location.

is there even space in there? is something moving out?

JYSK has great summer furniture. It can be hit or miss for the rest of the stuff.

They are currently renovating the common area that is in the mall. But I don't think there is room. Maybe some of the other stores are leaving?
