There seems to be a method to the madness with regards to Cup o Joe's decor, whereas Floyd's looks something like my first apartment in university.
There was a plan in Cup o Joe's, Floyd's just looks like laziness.

Well that is the exact method the owner used at Cup of Joes. It have seemed like it had "always" been that way but it was opened in the exact same style as Floyd's.
Also trust me the owner is anything but lazy. That guy works his ass off.

^I wasn't making a comment on any of the employees/ owner, but it looks lazy. As an easygoing guy who appreciates all types of fare and venues, the decor was enough put me off a bit. Not enough not to ever go back, but enough to think of somewhere more comfortable.
$5.99 Canadian Tire green plastic lawn chairs aren't my idea of diner seating.
I generally am a diner fan, along with other types of restaurants.

I assume that was the guy working the front when I was there. He kept track of everyone waiting in line, served coffee to them, and generally acted like a traffic cop. Masterful. I wish there were more like him in every place.
But the decor...listen, Big Bad John's is funky; Floyd's just looks tired. Maybe I'm just sick of the phony James Dean/Elvis/Marilyn nostalgia decor after years of seeing it in shabby, deteriorating theme diners like Rosie's Diner and whatever that fake 50s place was before Nautical Nellies on Wharf and Broughton.

I just want a good breakfast and a cheerful server. The decor is what it is. I didn't think the place was a dive. I thought it was a regular neighborhood place and after entering and looking around, I was cheerfully greeted and served and got a good breakfast exactly as I wanted.
I will definetely return notwithstanding any of the tangental negative comments I'm reading in this thread.

Louie Louie's! That place was awesome! But then again, I was 12 years old.

I just ate here recently, even though the last two times I went left something to be desired. I have to say, I was impressed this time. Yes the decor is tired. But the service was good and the food (for the price) was just fine. (plus I really enjoyed having a cup of coffee while we waited for our table. It made the wait much more bearable.)
The one thing that bugs me about a lot of restaurants is a lack of continuity. Bad one day, good the next. Sometimes you just never know what to expect!

It's tough for restaurants these days.. for some reason it's hard to keep kitchen staff from season to season.

Jeez mininmum wage in a hot exhausting place when their twenty more jobs around the corner? Who wouldn't do it? When I moved to Vic to go to University I had a ton of restaurant experience but it was next to impossible to get a job cooking. No one was hiring now every restaurant has a sign in the window.

Went to Floyd's for lunch today.
I thought the furnishings were fine - I didn't notice any lawn chairs or the like. Since it is the first time I had been I did find it "funky" not "tired"
Food was very good, service was good, price was pretty standard.
I will definitely return.

I went there on the weekend hoping to escape the standard Floyd's wait at its downtown location and was told at least half an hour. Geez that Petr sure has a following.

I not saying it's not good, but compared to all the great places I can go in Victoria, I think Floyd's is overrated.

Waited a good 20 or so minutes for our orders to arrive (club sandwiches and a breakfast yogurt/fruit thingy) but other than that the food was decent enough for a diner.

Yes, what you said about being slightly overrated... I agree, the food is great, but not the best.
And Floyds is starting to getr quite the following... kinda like the Blue Fox... great...
Never been to the Blue Fox, cos I won't make myself wait in a line up for 40 mins just to eat the same breakfast down the street.
